Anyone remember DVC&RCI?

I've read that DVC used to use RCI before II. This is before I joined DVC. Does anyone remember how the two worked together?

Specifically, how many RCI points were needed for a DVC stay or what the process was to use RCI points, like additional fees?

I'm a member of both DVC and RCI, so I'm semi-excited about hearing the details. Keeping my fingers crossed that this is a good thing.

I don't believe RCI was on a points system when DVC belonged to that trading company.

DVC worked with RCI from 1991 - 1995 and then the relationship changed to use II as the exchange company. At that time all exchanges were for a full 7 days (the partial week trades are a very recent modification) and at that time, as already noted, there was no RCI Points program.

The original RCI-based World Passport program worked much like the current program except the number of points required was not a fixed chart as it is now (that was changed a few years ago during the II program). The points required hhad to be determined by MS for each trade. the original RCI program required a full week to be reserved which was modified early on in the program and later changed to the present charted system.

There has always been an additional fee - both to use the WP program and to trade into a DVC resort.

The biggest change from RCI-to-II and now from II-to-RCI will be the specific resorts included in the DVC list. There are a few resorts with dual affiliation which have been in the program since the beginning.

It will be interesting to see the details of what the change will look like beginning in January. I expect to see the same point chart for DVC members and more information about partial week stays. Certainly the resort list will be very different and some will be disappointed to lose specific resorts while other nice resorts will appear on the list - many for the first time.
