Where on earth did that ever originate? :lmao:

"slug Bug" An excuse to punch your brother. Or in my case get punched.

I was the youngest and smallest. Now I am the tallest.

Our kids do this all the time. Riding down the road, all we hear from the back seat is "Punch Buggy! *whap* Can't punch back!" :sad2:

My DD (10) plays that all the time .... "Slug Bug (insert color)! No Take Backs!"

One of my friends and her DH play it all the time ..... and keep score. Yes, they are weird.

I don't know where it came from. I don't remember it as a kid, but we play it now w/ our kids. We do punch bug for a VW and punch buggy for an out of state license plate and we made up "Sponge Bob" for yellow cars. If you see a yellow VW from out of state, you get 3 punches!!!:cool1:

We have a good time w/ it!!:thumbsup2

I still play (I won't tell you how old I am though)... My friends probably think DFi and I are nuts because we're always punching each other in the car.

Here's a link to the history of the game. I didn't realize that it (really) pre-dated VW Bug.

I too remember that game as a kid "punch buggy (insert color).

My kids don't call them punch buggies they call the "Herbie's" LOL. They don't do any "punching" they just call out "(insert color) Herbie". They're so cute!!

Honestly, I had never heard of that until DD7 started doing it last year. Now, all we hear is "punch buggy, no punch back". I do it myself now. My kids are not allowed to hit one another though because someone would end up dead.

Oh yeah! We play it all the time! Except ours is Slug Bug, No Slug Back and we keep score instead of punching. If its a Volkswagon van, we do Doobie Bug and we get two points (when I was a kid you slugged twice). My kids (and well, DH and I) love playing it.

We also play the Cow Game in the car...that one is a HOOT!!

I'm in my 50's, we played it as a kid when there were a lot of VW bugs on the road. I can't remember who "taught" it to us. I guess it started when VW put the bugs out in the 60's because that's about when we started playing it. After a 4 hour car trip to DL, the arms would be in pretty bad shape.

I remember hating it..

And for payback,:rolleyes1 , my kids do PT CRUISER NO BRUISER...

DH and I both played 'punch bug' as kids and still play today (we've matured a lot, huh?) The old-style VW beetle is a 'punch bug' and the newer VW beetles are 'pinch-bugs'. Yeowch.

I love that old Roseanne episode where Roseanne and Jackie are playing it.
"Punch Bug"
"Cadillac Whack"
"Dodge" (points)
"Dodge what?"
"Dodge THIS!"

It was "slug bug" when I was younger, but DD started doing punchy buggy about a year or so ago. Living in a college town, it's a real pain in the you-know-what.

We LOVE punch-buggy for out of state license plates. Our whole family is so into it and we make guests play too!! We have some added extras: New Jersey is "punch-buggy My Chemical Romance" and Illinois is "punch-buggy Bob" (the drummer of MCR) we are SO weird!!

My DD picked up this game from a kid at school. I had never played it. She says "Punch Buggy (color of car), no punch back." Luckily, she doesn't punch hard and we don't punch her hard. Though the boys at school sure get her hard.

I love that!! Mind if DS and I borrow the Spongebob part?? :) We love the punch buggy thing already, and love Spongebob, so it'll be even more fun now!

It was "slug-bug" for me too. I remember one night in high school, my then boyfriend and I were out with another couple and we broke curfew for a couple of hours driving around town looking for slug-bugs. We got busted and I claimed that I got lost. :rolleyes1

My husband and I still play this game. It's one punch for the new bugs, two punches for a convertible bug, and three punches for a vintage bug. I have the advantage because he is usually driving. :rotfl:

Forgot to add- We also used to give a whack for spotting a car with a headlight out (but you got two back if you jumped the gun and punched for a motorcycle.)
