Anyone recommend the Grand Floridian Summerhouse?

Hi, was just reading up about reception locations and came across the Summerhouse. Anyone used this? Or is it just more of a pre-reception only area? Our party will probably be around 20, 25 maximum. Thanks again for all of your advice! x

It's an outside location only. The Summerhouse is used as the bar.

It's a beautiful spot, if you wouldn't mind having your reception outside. We had our anniversary dinner there in the summer and loved it.

Here are a few pix. As noted, the doors open to reveal a bar - there is no indoor space for guests.

it's a really pretty area, we're going to use it for a welcome event. In my contract it says events must end by 10 pm, but I don't think you would really be able to see Wishes from here. The Marina or SCP would be much better for that.

We got married at WDW Wedding Pavilion in an Intimate ceremony in January 2007. I think all of the packages have changed since then...

Anyway, we had the ceremony at the Pavilion, the reception on the Commander's Terrace at the Grand Floridian, then, unofficially, we all went to the Summerhouse for drinks prior to our dinner reception at Narcoossee's. It was fun as a sort of in-between spot, but it's really just a pool bar - I wouldn't myself recommend it as an ideal reception location. If the weather's nice, there'll be lots of other folks around on the patio and swimming in the pool, etc. so if you're okay with that, then I guess it could work.

We just got back from our latest trip, where we celebrated our anniversary and retraced our steps from the wedding day, which included a drink poolside at the Summerhouse and dinner at Narcoossee's. There was a very important guest along this time however, who wasn't at the wedding - our 16 month old son.

Oh, that must've been so lovely taking your son along to where you had your wedding day! I bet he loved every minute of Disney! Thanks for the advice, think i want somewhere a bit more private. We're thinking of maybe late October 2011 for the wedding so not sure how good the weather will be later in the evening being as it is a totally outdoor location...I really really really want to conclude the day with Wishes fireworks because we got engaged after them, so am open to any suggestions as to how we include this.

You can have a reception a Sago Cay. Its outside but I think you'd be fine in the evening in October.

Do you know if the view of the fireworks is good from Sago Cay? Was toying with the idea of a fireworks cruise but not sure how it would work. Am wondering if we would be able to have our reception, go on our fireworks cruise then go back to our reception site, coz i don't want our evening to end at 9.30 after the fireworks! Want to wear my dress as long as possible! :rotfl: We also want photo's at the fireworks and we will need 2 pontoon boats, not sure we could get a photographer on board?

Congrats! And how awesome that you got to bring your son to the spots where you got married and celebrated. That's what I really love about Disney, being able to bring our kids one day and showing them where we got married. :goodvibes

I think you're thinking of the Beach pool bar, I'm sure it has a real name, which actually looks exactly like the Summerhouse but is next to the beach pool. The Summerhouse is next to Big Pine Key and the beach separates it from the pool area. I'm pretty sure it is only used for private events. We saw a party there one night on our last trip and the set-up looked very nice, but you are out in the open and people walking by would see you. I think most of the outdoor GF locations would be like that though, SCP would probably be a little more removed but it's still out in the open.
