Anyone recommend a good Dishwasher?

We are replacing ours and I have no idea what brand/type to get. Any ideas?

Teenage children tend to work well. Maintenance is pretty high though :)

If I have to wait for my two to become teenagers I am going to wait quite a while for clean dishes. I guess I'll switch to paper.

that we have had....one was a portable hotpoint and when we remodeled ...we did the built in type....and this is a hotpoint....I LOVE IT....and I HATE TO DO DISHES>....

We have had a Maytag dishwasher for almost 7 years, without one single problem. I'm very happy with it.:D

We have a Whirlpool Elite. Have had it about 3 years. The only thing we have had to do is replace a valve. Our pipes had frozen this winter :( and it burst the valve. Luckily we just called a supplier and they mailed it out to us. Good thing my DH knows how to fix things.

Well, I had a maytag and it never dried the dishes. They were sopping wet. Repair guy said this is how they do it now and label it energy saving.

I currently have a frigidaire. I am not crazy about it. It cleans okay but I don't like the dispensers and the lo light is always on for the additives.

My favorite was a whirlpool we had years ago.

If I were to buy one today and did not have to worry too much about the cost, I would buy the Fisher-Paykel. It is high end but let me tell you I love my washing machine. We got it last fall and I have dropped 20-30 dollars off my monthly electric bills and the water bill was 50 dollars less for 3 months. It is so amazing all around. It cost us $695 but I would have spent more even if I knew it was this good. They are from New Zealand and import washers, dryers, dishwashers and refridgerators here. I can't wait for my dryer to die so I can get the companion to the washer.

We have a maytag eq Plus. We love it. It was orginally around $400. We were looking to replace ours that had died.
Well, we walked in Lowes and it was on the markdown area for $350. It had a small dent on the side.
My DH went to talk to someone about it and I had to practically sit on it, so no one else could see the price.
They marked it down another $50 and we have a wonderful dishwasher. No problems with it at all!

Good luck...

We had a KitchenAid dishwasher several years ago. When it finally died, we decided to save some $$ and replaced it with a Kenmore. The Kenmore is all right, but I wish I would have spent the extra $$ and bought another KitchenAid. It was easy to load and had an adjustable upper rack that would even take really large items. When the Kenmore dies, I'll look at KitchenAid again.

We also have a Maytag, it's great. I set the timer for the middle of the night and we never hear it when it's cleaning the dishes. I have a heat booster if I need it and we also have other features that I rarely use. As long as I use Jetdry I don't have spots. My DM use to tell my brother and myself "Why do I need a dishwasher, I have two." When I went out on my own I made sure I had a dishwasher. I think it's a great timesaver!!!!

What is the life expectancy of a dishwasher? Mine is about 8 years old and seems to be in his last days :(

I don't think that they last much beyond this. Mine was installed when our house was built and it's about 10 years old now. It's good at rinsing and drying and that's about it. :(

I love my Kitchen aid. My parents have had theirs for over 20 yrs and still going strong, mine is almost 14 yrs old and still working. I love it :D

I've got a Whirlpool and love it. Whirlpool seems to be the only dishwasher with silverware basket on the door and not taking up space in the dish area. Mine is the quiet partner II. The top rack adjusts and it cleans and dries really well. It also has a time delay so I can set it to start during the night.

I used to have that Whirlpool with the basket in the door. Great concept. We just replaced our dishwasher which came with the house, so it lasted about 7 1/2 years. The new one is the new Maytag with the third rack. I love it! You can put flat platters on the bottom, or raise the middle rack and put a larger item. I am very happy with it so far. It's also SO quiet. I can actually put the thing on while in the kitchen and still have a conversation. Amazing!
