Anyone recently stay at the Disneyland Hotel?

We've stayed at DLH many times and will be back in early December. As the OPs have noted, it's a very comfortable hotel, (the beds are great!) but you are paying a premium for location. So whilst there is no flying carpet or Mickey jig, there are touches which will make it special for you, like the light up headboard. I haven't stayed at the refurbed GCH yet, so not sure whether the pool there has changed, but should the weather be ok, the DLH pool will suit the ages of your kids well. It can be busy, but that's really a summer problem.
As far as cleanliness etc, we haven't struck any issues. The rooms have been in a good state, and since the refurb, well maintained. Service has always been excellent, in particular their room service. We often order an early inroom breakfast before hitting the parks. Room service can be a trial at some hotels, but at DLH it's always on time and good quality.
So well run, clean and comfortable, with good customer service. Ive no doubt that every once in while something doesn't go right...but I'm sure you will have a great time.

Thank you for your comments! Much appreciated. I hope we get to use the pools. Early November in SoCal, you just never know. Might be hot!

We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel in February with our 4-year-old and we all adored it. We liked the layout of the hotel, our room overlooking the pool was beautiful, and we got food and drinks from Trader Sam's and the CS restaurant multiple times and liked it all. We thought everything in the hotel was clean and in excellent condition. The weather was only warm and sunny enough to swim one day, and the pools were great. I personally loved all the Disney history everywhere around the hotel, especially the framed photo of Walt inspecting the castle on opening day. Other than the historical aspect, as WDW veterans, our favorite thing about this hotel was proximity to DTD and the parks. We could be inside Disneyland in 10 minutes, which is completely unheard of (for our budget) at WDW.

If you are into Disney history and want to get psyched for your trip, I would recommend Don Ballard's book on the Disneyland Hotel. I read it last winter (prior to our trip) and knowing about the hotel's origins only enhanced my enjoyment!

This might be late - but I never use Yelp. I always use tripadvisor. Yelp doesn't seem to be as reliable.

I haven't been since 2013, but we love the Disneyland Hotel and will probably always stay there if we can. We are going in November - but the rates are must worse than those Dapper Dan rates!

Of course, now I had to go read all the recent yelp reviews...they are so much fun to read although I typically stick to tripadvisor. Every review needs to be taken with a grain of salt. As people have said - most people - over 99% do not leave reviews at all. Those that do typically had a fantastic or terrible experience - hence the multitude of one and five star reviews and few three stars. Even though I know these reviews are full of hyperbole both ways, I think you can always get a good feel from reading them.
From what I can gather about the one star reviews of Disneyland Hotel - they are based on the cost, fact that the monorail wasn't running, pool problems, crowds in the Parks, or no complimentary breakfast. Actually that was the most common one - people complained that there was no complimentary breakfast given the price. Most of the chain hotels (Hamptons, etc.) offer complimentary breakfast, but most independent ones or pricier ones do not. Personally I hate that free breakfast, but I don't have kids and understand that it can be a real cost saver to those families who are used to it when traveling. Most of the other reasons for the one star were out of control of the hotel - but there were some valid complaints about some minor wear-and-tear in rooms. Overall though, I wouldn't take the one star reviews too seriously.
Enjoy the ambience of the beautiful hotel and enjoy every second of your vacation (and buy a Mickey waffle for breakfast :)

That was a good summary of what I was reading. Some of the 1-star reviews were pretty darn dramatic. I feel tons better about things since asking here and getting such great feedback!

I popped back in to add this ... after 4 nights at the DLH, we moved over to the Hilton for 4 nights to be closer to the convention center for D23. The Hilton might be cheaper, but it's NOT either a better hotel or a better deal. In fact, THAT hotel is the one that's showing its age pretty badly. The lobby areas are fine ... the rooms (and I was in 3 before I just quit and accepted that it wasn't going to get any better) were shabby.

We have stayed at the DLH a dozen times or so, staying at least five nights each time. We have never, never, ever been disapointed in the DLH or the staff! We have had a couple miner hick-ups, so to speak but, they were taken care of as soon as I questioned the front desk about whatever they were. As the others have stated, the people complaining about the hotel obviously had unrealistic expectations. We stay in a lot of hotels traveling for business. We stay in San Francisco, Denver, DC, New Orleans, and other places often. Three to four hundred dollars a night or more, is quite common for a nice hotel. Another thing some people overlook, is the DLH is a RESORT. We treat it as a resort and make use of as many amenities as we can. Where else in the U.S. can you meet Mickey, Minnie, or Snow White in the hotel lobby? Where else can you have Goofy load your luggage on a luggage cart at the Valet desk? The DLH is our place to go to relax and take a break!
