The Shack? I read it a couple of weeks ago and loved it.

Wasn't crazy about the blurb at the end to push the book but the book was worth that little annoyance.

I read it several months ago & liked it too! Completely agree with you about the blurb at the end. There was no need - let the book speak for itself. I read an article that stated it was being made into a movie - might be interesting if the casting is well done.

I loved this book, although I do have to admit that some of it was over my head, but I guess that's part of the point. What human could possibly understand everything God has to impart to us? Anyway, I think they'd have to get someone like Anthony Hopkins to play the dad. I always pictured him when reading it, although I guess he might be a bit too old.

I read it, and then turned right back around and read it again. Talk about making me think! The part about judging God REALLY got me. It was a pretty amazing journey.

I read The Shack several months ago and really enjoyed it. It is not a fun read. But it sure does make you think. And there is controversy surrounding it. Some non-believers hate it, some Christians hate it. My kind of book!

I don't remember what blurb you are talking about. Was it actually part of the book or was it written following the story?

The Shack was a very interesting read. I enjoyed it, it was thought provoking and poignant. Don't skip it!

If you haven't read it yet... this is one book that you MUST read the Prologue before you read the book. It gives you perspective that helps you follow the story.

I read it a few months back. I liked it as a book of fiction. If you want to know more about God, then you need to head to the bible. To learn about Father God, I would read Genesis, then the book of Psalms. To learn about the Holy Spirit I would read the book of Acts, then to learn about Jesus I would read the gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. A good bible to read as you would a literature book is The Message bible.

What I took away from The Shack is relationship. I had never thought much about how the three must have an incredible relationship with one another. It has made me think about how I treat those I love most.

I enjoyed it as well, though I was a little hesitant to accept the depictions of the Trinity as he presented them. After I finished the book, though, I think it made the concept much more understandable. If you've ever been totally confused about the Trinity, I think it will help you understand how that relationship works, but more than that, I think it will help you understand your own relationship with God, and grasp a better understanding as to "why bad things sometimes happen".

I remember laughing when I bought the book. It came witha full page "disclaimer" that the book had been deemed "controversial" due to the depictions. While I would not take it as fact, anything deemed as controversial usually means it's a good, thought provoking read, which is usually the case. I'm all for anything that makes you stop and re-evaluate your life.

I read this book about a month ago and really, really liked it. There were many passages that I had to read and re-read to fully understand and absorb, and I'm still not sure I completely understand all of it. It is a book that has made me think and, even though parts of it were confusing, I feel I came away with a better understanding of spirituality and relationships.

There were several parts of the book that I cried and cried over. Some of the crying was from sadness, but a lot of it was brought on by happy and touching moments in the book.

I have it but have not read it yet. Hopefully soon. DD read it. I have a friend who read it and didn't care for many of the book's concepts. I am not sure what that means yet as I have not read it and she wants me to decide for myself and then we can discuss it. She's Catholic and I'm Baptist so it'll be an interesting discussion, I'm sure.

No, I understand what you are saying, I don't agree, but I understand!

Kind of like when you watch a movie that has scenes that are overdone, ad nauseum. Like The Notebook, for me. That was forced, at the end, you know the scene!

I guess The Shack did not seem overdone to me because of all the awful things that go on in this world. The book gave me comfort when I hear of something awful.

Hey, I can't even watch Animal Planet when they show those pitiful animals. So sad.

The Shack gives me hope.

It was in the back of the book around the section where there might be info on the author.

If it made you think, that was the point. It's ok if you feel it was forced. Read it again in a few months and see if that changes.

The Shack gives me hope.

It gave me hope too. A man goes through the most horrendous thing many of us can imagine and comes through whole but with the pieces of his life rearranged.

Most of what I read is biographical, historical, or spy thrillers, so The Shack was a change of pace. I picked it up on a whim and when I get home from vacation, I want to read it again.

It has changed the way that I look at some things and that's good because I was getting caustic. It made me feel grateful.

Yes, I agree. For a father to have gone through what he did, unspeakable. But then to picture what God did during that horrible event, well, it makes so much of the sickness that goes on in this world more bearable. The fact that he was assured that his daughter was fine where she was, well that was just wonderful.

And I, too, was getting caustic. And The Shack also gave me a new perspective. I need to read that book again!
