Some of the crying was from sadness, but a lot of it was brought on by happy and touching moments in the book.

I read it - I thought it was interesting - I thought some of it was very disturbing. But I felt like it was "forced" if that makes any sense. Kind of overly manipulative - made me think, but not in an "aha" kind of way.
I'm making no sense....

I just started it last night. So when should I stop so I don't read the unneeded blurb.
I read The Shack several months ago and really enjoyed it. It is not a fun read. But it sure does make you think. And there is controversy surrounding it. Some non-believers hate it, some Christians hate it. My kind of book!
I don't remember what blurb you are talking about. Was it actually part of the book or was it written following the story?

The Shack gives me hope.
