I was reading an article by Dr. Mark Hyman who wrote the book and I decided to check it out. He claims that diseases/conditions such as depression, adhd, diabetes, even bi polar and autism stem from inflammation in our brain. He says if we change what we eat we can be cured.
It's a very interesting book. I didn't get to the diet yet, but from what I gather there will be no gluten, dairy, etc...he even wants you to only eat grass fed organic non hormone meats, plus lots of supplements and pro biotics. This could get expensive. However, I have been depressed my whole life and nothing is helping me. I've tried Prozac, zoloft, talk therapy, st. johns wort....since my 2nd baby I have been eating terribly, I've gained weight, I'm tired all the time and I can't "snap out of it" and that's a horrible way to go thru life.
Anyway, if anyone has been able to successfully complete the 6 week detox, I'd love to hear about it. The Dr. claims your craving for the bad stuff goes away?? Is that true? Also, how did you get your families on board. I don't see how I can change my diet this drastically and not have my husband and kids do the same. I already warned my dh about this but he claims he's on board and wants to be healthy too...we'll see when there are no more cookies in the house.
