Anyone re-try foods they don't like?

I rarely re-try foods that are on my no-go list. They are on the list for very good reasons. The few times I have re-tried some of the foods, I was quickly reminded why they were on the list. :scared:

I finally like asparagus lol.
I get a cookie sheet, cover it with foil, pour some olive oil in it, after I was the asparagus and cut them I put them in the oil, cut up some garlic, put mccormick italian grinders over it, mix it around with my hands, 350 for 25-30 minutes.

When I was a kid, I didn't like sausages. (and I can say that--my mom always asked us to try stuff, if we didn't like it, we didn't have to finish it). Well, one day when I was about 15, dad had a sausage & pepper hero. It smelled so good, I asked him if I could try some. I did, and I loved it. Ever since then, I've tried things I didn't think I'd like. I still don't like some (mushrooms, asaparugus, spinach, most pork) but I've learned I like others (eggplant, zuchini, brocoli)

Salmon! never liked this stuff but have tried recently at a restaurant. It was cooked a bit different and I thought I would try it. I love it! interestingly enough, I can't stand sardines now which I used to love...

Raw tomatos. Made me want to barf as a kid...still make me want to barf as an adult. How you people eat those things is beyond me, they're disgusting! Cook them and they are fine, but raw? Ewwwww! And it's not a "texture" thing like everyone always tells me. It's the taste.

I love it this way too and I also cook it on a grill. Either way, I LOVE it.

I will also grill squash (yellow or zucchini), purple onion, corn on the cob, bell pepper. I figure any veggie has to be better cooked on a grill.

As for Brussel Sprouts: try the Green Giant Steam In Bag kind. They are lightly seasoned and really good.

Yup! I will try things I don't like if they are prepared in a way I've never tried. I've found that the way things are prepared can make a big difference in how they taste.
As an example, my husband hated brussel sprouts! I loved them!! One Thanksgiving my family came to our house, and I made sauteed brussell sprouts to go along with the meal. In my house the adults follow the rules too, and our rule is you have to try two bites. Well my husband tried a bite, and then another, and another, and pretty soon he was loading his plate up with seconds! He had only ever had steamed brussel sprouts, now he can't get enough if they are sauteed or roasted!!
Same goes for asparagus. He had only had canned (blech!!) so he thought he hated it, but I grilled asparagus one night, and now that's a summer time staple in my house.

I totally agree with your whole post! Those are two of my most hated veggies from when I was a child, and now I absolutely love them. For Easter I roasted brussels sprouts with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and let me tell ya, I could have eaten the whole batch myself!!! Same with grilled asparagus. So yummy, now!

I hate regular mustard. I like honey mustard in small amounts. I can eat ketchup and it won't bother me, but if someone else is eating ketchup and I'm not, the smell of it turns my stomach.

OMG! I thought this was just me! My husband laughs at me, but when I rinse the ketchup off my daughter's plate when she has it I gag every time. I can eat it no problem though. So weird.

I used to hate squash when I was younger. After I had my daughter, I was trying to lose weight and eat more veggies and I found that it's now one of my favorites. I like all the types I've tried too.

Other things I've sort of come to like are onions and tomatoes. I don't like them raw, but at least now I'll eat them cooked in something. If there are big chunks though I can't do it.

I hate mushrooms, bananas and pears. For the most part it's a texture thing. I really want to like them, especially mushrooms because so many things at restaurants have them, but I can' get past the sliminess. I wish I liked bananas too, because they're cheap. I do like banana flavor, just not the mushiness.

I have--

But there are a few things on my list that wont' ever touch my mouth ever again.

It includes eggplant, coffee, pearled onions and anything with curry.

Eggplant I am scared of....the others, I do not like in any way shape or form at all and if a dish includes it--I will not even do a no thank you helping. My palate has discerned quite well that those flavors are awful and nasty.

I'm a bit flexible on other things b/c palates can change and preparation can make a world of difference. But coffee and curry--:scared::scared::scared:

Oh man, I can't stand the smell of ketchup when getting ready to do dishes either. Have to rinse it off asap!

When we were at WDW in 2007, we stayed at CSR. My grandson & I were hungry so we wandered down to the Pepper Market. So many decisions! I don't remember what else was included in our dinner, but one of the items had to be roasted veggies of some sort. I asked our server what this one item in the assorted pile of veggies was & you could have knocked me over when I heard his reply--eggplant! Never in a million years would I have thought of that! But, oh gosh, that dish was just too good for words. DGS even ate his; then again, he's very good when it comes to trying new foods. I only wish I had written down the name of the dish & what else was in it besides eggplant & zucchini.

When I was growing up my dad loved Blue Cheese dressing, I tried it one time and about gagged. Fast forward to the age of about 26, we were at a salad bar and all of the sudden the idea of blue cheese dressing sounded good. Now I love the stuff.

There are still things I won't EVER eat and I think I can name them on one hand. Fennel, safron rice and cherries. Oh, and any soda that isn't diet. Can't stand the sugar.
