Yikes.... my DD7 and I went to a summer girl scout meeting tonight and found out that we have to make 100"swaps" int he next two months for our camping trip. The leader showed us examples and gave us web sites but I'd love to do mickey type swaps with her--anyone done any of these--anyone have an idea for me--I can usually create anything but I'm not great always on gfetting the wheels turning--counting on you disney friends to help!

Thanks in advance!

I know swaps are suppose to be tiny. If you have access to a printer and could reduce the size of the mickey head from the Home Depot paint samples onto cardstock, laminate if possible, cut them out and glue a small pin back to them. Write something like camping 2007. I went to a Disney themed camp out last year for Girl Scouts and I'm trying to think if they did swaps. I will look and let you know.

Easiest one we did was to take a pompom 1 inch diameter or less and glue googly eyes to it and a safety pin, or similar pin. If you want to get fancy, cut out felt or foam feet for the bottom of the pompom.

If you want to do mickey, what about one large pompom and 2 smaller ones in the same color. It would look similar to the antenna toppers but fuzzy. You could still add the eyes to him. That is just about how I look at the end of a whirlwind Disney day!:earboy2:

My troop just had to make 100 swaps for our Gala and I found a website for making your own license plate (I googled it but if you can't find it and want it let me know and I'll fidn it and post) and chose my state and the theme - ours was NJ Wildlife. Then I put Troop XXX on it (you could also do I LUV GS or whatever your DD wants). I saved it and then printed it as an index print so I got 30 tiny ones per page. We laminated both sides of the paper with that laminating paper from Staples and then cut them all out and glued pins on the back - everyone LOVED  them and they were Soooo cute and CHEAP and the easiest things we've ever made.

Hope this helps and you enjoy the camping trip

We just made swaps for our trip to D.C.
We made fly swatters which were very easy using the plastic mesh and pipe cleaners and a plastic fly. We did other too but they were very complicted ones. For a mickey one print out a clipart and add your troop name.
Or make a bed rool and use mickey fabric.
DD received some really cutes ones from beach in a bag, braclets, etc.

pipe cleaner dragonflies/butterflies attached wtih pins, round felt happy faces with small felt eyes and string mouth on pin, black mickey head, with round ears---think felt, pipe cleaners and safety pins---you can make 100 in 1 hr if you have all the stuff.

May I ask what swaps are? My DD will be a Daisey next year so obviously we are new to this!

We did the beach in a bag!! Wonder if you swapped with us but I don't remember my DD getting a flyswatter.

For the Mickey one, maybe you can copy a Mickey head onto shrinky dink paper, add her name or troop number or whatever you are putting on it, cut them apart and shrink them up. Maybe you could punch holes in it first so you have a pin hole. :confused3
Good luck with it and let us know what you decided to do.

Oh, I just remembered my DSis did one but it was really alot of work. She and her DD picked up sticks from the yard (small), broke them into small pieces and glued 3 together. She then glued this metallic orange/red/yellowish ribbon to the top in a little ball (think fire), and then glued a pin back onto the back. Took her awhile to make 100 of them but them came out great!!

We might have, we also gave out bed rolls, sundaes and the fly swatters.

Swaps are little souveniers girls make and trade with other troops, usually at big group events like camping or International Day. We usually keep the swap related to the event - so when we went camping we did a glow in the dark star with our troop number on the back that had a safety pin so the girls could pin it to their hat, lanyard, or whatever.

Other troops did swaps that looked like coolers, sleeping bags, bugs, horses, and smores.

If you google "girl scout swaps" you will find tons of info, some have pictures and instructions.

That's too funny, we were at DC and my DD6 (Daisy) got a bed roll! Maybe you swapped with us too!!

I'm taking my Brownie troop to our very first "Troop Adventure Camp" this weekend (just finished 1st grade). Is this popular enough that everyone else will have some? If so I could probably whip up something fast tonight...
