Anyone planning on using home resort points for SSR ?

I wonder if these same questions were asked of VB and HH owners? After all they may have just been buying those resorts to be able to book at one of the WDW world resorts.
If you are trying to say that SSR is being singled out and picked on, the answer is no on both counts. We had the same discussion about VB and to a lessor extent HH, at the appropriate time. And if OKW were selling now, same would be true there as well, and it's my favorite resort. Actually someone posted a few months ago that they bought OKW to use it at other resorts and they were absolutely blasted, inappropriately so IMO.

We really love the Epcot resort area and that's where we want to stay the most. We bought a BWV resale so we can always make this happen. :) We are considering staying at SSR for our Dec 2007 trip however. We like the proximity to DTD and the rooms look beautiful. We also like the upstate NY theme. The lack of on site dining is an issue for us. We like sit down breakfasts and feel that we'd always have to eat breakfast in a park if we'd stayed at SSR. We don't rent a car ever and don't really like "food court" type breakfast food. The Epcot resort area has a lot of sit down breakfast choices. :) We eat lunch in the parks and dinner all over, so DTD being so close would be great for us for dinner.

Also, giving up being able to walk into Epcot or MGM is big for us. We love the whole Boardwalk atmosphere. That being said, I'd still like to try it. Who knows, maybe they will have onsite dining by then!

I really doubt it will ever become the place we use our points most often. We just love the Epcot resort area too much!

Yes, these questions have been asked of every DVC resort after OKW. People have always speculated that the buyers of any resort than theirs have some ulterior motive for buying there that will adversly affect their home resort. When we were getting ready to buy, the big discussions were about (1) people buying BWV to get a lower yearly fee on the points and then stay at OKW for the lower point per night rates and bigger rooms, and (2) people buying at VWL before it opened to stay at BWV and crowd the BWV owners out...So far, none of the predictions of gloom and doom have come true. :earboy2:

But there is a big difference.

BWV 383 vacation homes
OKW 531
VWL 136
HH 102
VB 175
BCV 208

When VWL opened and everyone said "all those members will flood our resorts" all those members were all of 136 rooms worth. SSR after completion will be larger than BCV/VWL/VB combined. And I don't see SSRs draws as being of the same appeal as BCVs SAB.

I know this isn't what you asked, but we bought at SSR and will stay at SSR almost exclusively. We don't like the decor of BCV & BWV, but love the bigger rooms and fewer points of OKW, so when we need 2 or 3 BR villa's, we may pick OKW for those, but don't worry, it will only be in the slow seasons. (except for our anniversary in 2006, 5 years since DH & I married so we plan to stay 5 nights SSR, then 2 at Poly, then 5 more at BWV or WL. But that will be the exception, not the rule.

I own VWL and SSR and I alternate netween those two resorts and OKW using points from both contracts.

I actually cancelled an reservation I had at BCV and stayed at SSR instead last June and this was using BCV points. I was not disappointed at all. I liked it well enough to stay there again a few months later.

My least favorite resort is WLV, because of the darkness-just not me. Not every resort is more appealing than SSR to everyone. What in the world makes some of you think that no one is going to stay at SSR is beyond me. I would only hope that would be the case. If it is, that would mean I could get a reservation at WDW anytime I wanted.

I think a lot of people will stay at SSR....I just don't see it as having 6x the appeal of BCVs - which is what it will need to keep the system balanced at its size. I can understand why people like it even if I don't (I like VWL, but do understand the "its dark" complaint).

By the way BCVs has little appeal for me either. I dislike the decor, almost as much as I dislike the SSR decor, and find SAB to be "the pool guarenteed to give me grey hair." When the kids are a little older, we might try for a night or two there for the pool.
