We are seriously ( will know by this wed ) thinking about arriving on 12/31 and staying thru 1/5. I know it might be crowded, but if the website can be believed, the hours at DL will go to midnight each day we are there, and DCA till 10 pm....so being the vets we are we think we can still have a great time. On NYE we would catch the MEP in DCA, then close the park down, and just plan on watching the DL fireworks from the esplanade, or even the viewing platform at Carousel Inn.

Any comments on my sanity ?

Anyone else going to be there ?

Umm, Judy, you are insane. ;) :p

Although we won't be anywhere NEAR DL on NYE I would LOVE to see you guys later in the week. I do think the hours will probably hold as most kids will still be out of school that week.

Just be prepared to be in the park early (even DCA) and don't leave or you may not get back in.

Go for it! :teeth:

I am hoping that the crowds on the 2-4th would be down significantly.......and with the extended hours we would be ok, if we used the afternoon time for DD eating, shopping, movies, hotel swiming etc .
Do most of the local AP holders not have these days blackedout ? Did that all change when they were trying to get people into DCA ?

You do think that DCA will be crowded too huh. We can always switch and arrive on NYD. Or, arrive late NYE, not use a day on our pass, and just plan on settling in and watching the fireworks ( both Believe and NYE ) from the roof of the hotel.

If you remember we were going to come the week after Thanksgiving, but my school gives only 2 days off, and rolls the rest into the Christimas holiday, so the student's who need to fly home get a solid month off. I give my final on 12/16....then have almost a month off ! So, it isn't pretty to ask for other time off:eek:

I think the whole Disney area will be a zoo on NYE, honestly. DD, DL and DCA will all be packed. Your plan to watch fireworks from your hotel is SMART. :)

New Year's week the crowds will probably die down some, but it will still probably be crowded. January 1-4 is only a blackout date for the So Cal Annual passes, it is not blacked out for the deluxe passes and of course not the premium APs.

I still say GO FOR IT, I would just avoid the masses on NYE if you can! :)

Hi,

I have been to DL twice on NYE. Both times staying at Disneyland and then going to the Rose Bowl the next day. We had a grand time. It was very crowded, but yet festive at the same time. Loved it! Hoping to go again this year.

GO DAWGS! (UW)

It was crowded. I don't remember much, too much vodka in my water bottle, but to watch the fireworks they told us we couldn't stand in the walk way and if we wanted to see the fireworks we had to climb the fence and stand on the flowers. It was that crowded that they knew their was no option but to have us trample the flower beds to aviod a riot. But it was fun!!!

Not this year, but I was debating doing it NYE 2003/2004 but if it is truely a mod/riot scene I ma have to change my mind.

The only day I can remember being more crowded than NYE . . . is Christmas day. Haven't been to DL for NYE in at least 10 years.

On a normal night crowds of people leave at 9:30 - 10pm. On NYE people stay until midnight so it's not like a normal park experience. One bad memory I have are all the restaurants closing on a rolling schedule; i.e., the Mexican restaurant in Frontierland closed at 9:30, the Plaza Inn closed at 10, etc . . . the only restaurant still open at 10:30 was the BBQ restaurant in the back of Frontierland, and it was quite crowded but it was the only place still open! It didn't make any sense when there were thousands of extra people in the park but no restaurants were kept open. It didn't make any sense . . . maybe on a normal night when there are fewer people in the park at those hours but not NYE when people stay until midnight just because it's NYE.

Maybe CA will do something special for NYE . . . possibly less crazy than DL. Good luck!
