Anyone Planning International Travel for August Now That Restrictions Have Loosened?

We just returned from renting a cottage on Manitoulin Island in nothern ON and though it was lovely week away it wasn't quite the vacation (still cooking and cleaning lol) I've been dreaming of. I long for sun, sand and warm tropical waters (first world problem yes I know lol). My DH has another 2 weeks off in August (and now that restrictions have loosened (specifically for travelling with unvaccinated children-- we are booth fully vaxxed but our dd who is 10 obviously is not). I am debating if we should book to go somewhere south like the Caribbean or Mexico (Canada is beautful but super expensive and there are no warm tropical waters). I know our gov't is still discouraging international travel so I am not sure if that means any travel insurance would be negated by that. Is anyone booked to travel internationally next month? I know prices keep going up and I need to make a decision soon but am still on the fence.

I can completely relate to wanting something tropical... I miss palm trees and the beach....

We considered a resort trip in Mexico with our DD8 and DD10, but ultimately we decided on an adults only Disneyworld trip for mid August. With the Travel Advisory on, I was concerned about insurance and being "stuck" should someone test positive. From Florida we have a rental car we could drive... I know of a few families going to the Dominican or Mexico for amazing prices! Someone on this board suggested looking into Tugo for insurance.

We were really hoping to see the land borders open up for a road trip together to Lake Placid. The girls will have a special vacation with the inlaws while we are away. 😄

Good luck! 🌴

I'm coming home!

Which is international travel since I live in Europe. I was home just before the lockdown in mid-March 2020, so it's been a while.

I actually had to reroute myself getting back to Europe since is supposed to fly via the US and I was traveling the day after the US closed it's borders to foreign nationals who had been in Europe.

ETA - Switzerland doesn't require testing to come in if you are vaccinated, so the worry of getting stuck in Canada is much less (and, of course, Canada is home so I have family I could live with if I did get stuck).

We're in the UK for our daughter's wedding. Not something we were going to miss once the rules returning to Canada changed. That's said the cost of all of the COVID tests, and an AirBNB to quarantine in for 10 days, means that we won't travel again unless the rules loosen up for fully vaccinated people. The logistics of getting a test abroad can be a hassle if where you're staying doesn't provide them.

Leave for Florida in less than 2 weeks. Palm trees and white sandy beaches on the Gulf coasts for a few days and then Universal to end off the trip. Just wanted to edit to say our flight back from MCO is now pretty full and our flight down to Tampa is quickly filling up since we first book and there was just a handful of booked seats. Almost the whole plane was empty going down but that has quickly changed since they updated the border restrictions. Our flights have also gone up over $1500 since we booked a few weeks ago

I was wondering how it was getting travels insurance and what companies you used (did it provide COVID protection?)? I have been wanting to travel but with all the extra costs of testing ($199 for PCR per person) and trip and insurance I wasnt sure...

For medical? We are booking CAA because we are all double vaxxed and they cover double vaxxed for medical. You can check it all out online and make sure to look at the policy wordings. Cancellation due to Covid, we couldn't find any company covering Canadians for that. We are going to be doing the antigen test for the trip down at our Shoppers Drug Mart for $40 per person.

I am covered through Manulife with work. They do not cover costs related to Trip interruption due to needing to quarantine or the cost of tests. I have looked into a few other companies and have not found a policy that will cover this cost for trips under 31 days.

As others have mentioned, we are getting the Shoppers Rapid Test for $40 through Shoppers and use the free testing at Walgreen's for our return.

Thank you, that is great to know, from you and Susan2771, that my family and I (who are all vaccinated) just need the $40 antigen test from Shoppers (that is way better than the $199 PCR test)

As of now, I am booked for a trip to WDW in 10 days but have to say that I am still debating whether to do it or not. Travelling with one kid that is less than 12 years old - so no vaccine and the most recent case count is not the most reassuring... and I am not one to usually worry...

We are travelling to Disney world with DS12 mid August (15th-22nd) from Toronto. All of us fully vaccinated now, DS just got his second dose last Friday.
If nothing changes, no rules at the borders or anything these, we are going. We are not telling DS for sure until we go to do the rapid antigen test at shoppers 3 days before, just in case we have to cancel.
We got travel insurance with our air tickets (Aeroplan) and can cancel the flights up to 2 hrs prior to departure.

We got Blue Cross travel medical. They also cover Covid if you’re fully vaccinated.
I‘m in BC. Sadly Shoppers doesn’t offer the $40 test here. I don’t know why :sad2:
so we’re getting the $129 Antigen test at YVR on the way out. We’ll just have to get to airport I’m thinking 4 hrs before flight. Test results in 30 min
