Anyone park at Newark-long term?

My mom told me she just did this and had no problems. But, I want other opinions from people with kids that have done this. She said it was $12 a day to park at the airport for a max of 2 weeks. We will be gone for 9 days. Is it hard with kids and luggage to park the car at the lot, then take that bus they have to the airport? The price and convienence of using our own transportation to/from the airport is what is selling me. I'm also worried if the car is safe there. Anyone have any trouble doing this or can offer any advice?

We've parked there with no problems twice. That said, $108 toward renting a car for the day we leave and the day we come back (~$70/day) means that for about $32 I do not have to worry about my Volvo at EWR, JFK, or LGA.
The fact that either the Hertz bus or the monorail drops me off at the terminal and I don't have to worry about my car while I'm gone, justifies the slight extra cost of renting.

We parked our van in Dec. 2004 for 7 nights. $12 sounds about right. We didn't have trouble w/ the shuttle, but it is quite a ways from the airport. Before we got there; I was thinking we could walk it. Not a chance. As far as being secure, our only complaint was that upon our return, we noticed our autism car magnet was gone. We were pretty bummed about that. Why anyone would take it is beyond me.

We always park at the long term at Newark never had any problems. When our kids were younger and travelled with us DH would drop me and the kids and luggage at the terminal then he would go park and meet us inside. Now that it's just the two of us I go with him to park. I don't think we've ever waited more that 10 minutes for the shuttle.
