Curious to find out myself. We just discussed selling our treadmill to buy an elliptical (DH used to use one at the gym and he likes this more than tread).

I use one at the gym Precor ex546 i think....

I looked at the ones they have for home use and to me they just don't work the same....

Unfortunately to buy one like the gyms have it's like $3000.... :earseek:

now $3000 would pay for my gym dues for like the next 15-20 yrs but if I won some money or got a bigger house it would be nice to have one at home....

Bought a Nordic Trac eliptical at a garage sale for $40. It was nearly new. Could not believe that it was so cheap.

Dusted it off and it is awesome. Way better than any treadmill or bike.

I got one for Christmas. It's from walmart, an image 8.0 and was $215. I really like it. It works great, has lots of digital features, different resistance tracks, measures heart rate, can change resistance, can set how many steps you want to do, etc. It also has a magazine/book holder and a water bottle holder.

Honestly, it's not as sturdy as the ones at the gym, but it works great and works just the same. It just doesn't have the huge frame and platform that the gym one does. Even if I had thousands of dollars to spend on one, I think that this one is great and would probably get it anyway.

I don't have one, but I do have a Gazelle and love it. I believe it was about $115.00 at Sears. I have bad knees, so I can't use a treadmill or anything like that. The Gazelle is low impact, but I can "walk" or "run" on it. It also has resistance for strength training. You may want to look at one.

Im trying to remember..is this the one that sort of "swings" back and forth? If its the one im thinking of my DH got on one some time ago and got to going too fast and couldnt stop...my heart raced thinking about the impending ER visit that would follow. I dont think one of these would work in my house.

Yes.

Have you ever seen the Geico commercial with the guy that has long hair in a ponytail and is wearing really tight shorts? The machine that he's on is what I have.

There are several versions and with mine I can be going really fast, but it stops the second I do.

I have an elliptical machine, and I love it. I don't use it nearly as much as I should, but of all the exercise equipment in my house that is collecting dust, the elliptical is my favorite. It is lower impact on my knees than a treadmill, and it seems to tone my legs much faster. The one I bought was only around $100.00 so it is in no way as good quality as at the gym, but it works for me. My friend bought a really nice elliptical machine at Sears for around $600.00, and it is a very good quality one.

I'm going to bid on one on e-bay tomorrow, if I'm lucky I can pick up a $700 machine for $250! If not, I'll just keep checking the listings.

We had an Orbitrek which kept breaking so I wouldn't recommend that one. Good luck in your search.

We have a Nordic Track from Sears...got it last Janurary. Pricey but has held up wonderfully.

ONE THING TO LOOK FOR...test the model out first before you buy. Some of the "strides" are very short! The machines at the gym have a nice long stride, and if you are used to that and then go out and get a machine you might be dissapointed. Our nordic track elliptical has an average to long stride so we are very happy w/it.

good luck!

We just bought one and LOVE IT. Bought ours at Kmart on sale for 89$. Now granted it is in no way as high tech and sturdy as the gym ones, but it serves it's purpose. It counts calories burned, distance, time and mph for you. Very easy to assemble and easy to use!

you can get on on www.nordictrek.com (like the ones at the gym) for like 899.00. They also have free shipping right now and you can break the payments up into 5 payments. I think this is what I am going to do for sure!!

Try the Eclipse 1100 HR/A. I got it from Walmart online for about $400 including shipping. It is very sturdy and works well. My wife likes it a lot.

I take back what I said about the walmart image elliptical machine. It is a piece of crap. We got one and put it together and the resistance didn't work and neither did the display so DH had to take it all back apart and lug it back to walmart to get a new one. Well, when he opened the new one, he realized that the old one had already been opened, so we figured it was a return that was broken and we ended up with it. He put it together and it worked great, for a few days. Now the resistance is broken again. That's probably why the first one was returned. Anyway, now he has to take it back apart and lug it back to walmart. That's 4 trips back and forth for nothing.

I guess I"m going to look at the nordic track and some more high end ones because I'm not going through this again. I want a good one that works. Ugh. Sorry for telling you how great it was. Glad I found out now.

I have the same one, and paid about the same price for it at Sports Authority. It is also a lot more compact than others and fits in small spaces.

How do you like it? I'd love to get a better one for $400, and need it to be sort of small, but now I'm nervous about buying one from walmart. Is this a good brand?

I like it so far, but I have only had it since x-mas. It has a lot of the different incline features, heart rate monitor, water bottle and book holders, and long foot platforms. It does have a shorter stride, but I'm pretty small and not used to the bigger ones at the gym, so it's good enough for me.
