My dd's boyfriend's pom had puppies last night and guess what he wants to give her for her birthday... I need some advice on their care and temperament.

Do you like dogs that bark ALL OF THE TIME? My mom had to put her Shih Tsu to sleep a couple of years ago, and my brother to console her went out and bought a pom, thinking that since it was a small dog like her first one, yeah it was okay. Now if he'd have just asked his older sisters....:)
They are cute, though, just noisy, talk about jumpy! Of course I wish I had that kind of energy, though.....;)

I wonder if they are all yappie little things or was it just that one?

Our former neighbors have one. She wasn't to yappy. A little hyper. But, a truly sweet dog.

I know our's was very yippy [you really can't call it yappy, the pitch of the bark is just too high] and once he started barking he would not stop until picked up. The one we had was also very jumpy and not child friendly at all.

I think the poster"browneyes" has one(?) I think they are just adorable....most vey small dogs tend to be "yappers", though.

We got our Pom when she was 10 weeks old. She is a beautiful dog and she has a great temperment since she was around our three kids who mauled her from day one. You have to watch out cuz they are small and could have problems with hypogycemia as pups and are still could be injured with rough handling. They are tough, though and now since she is an adult, she puts up with a lot.

She is yappy, though since she became an adult. She thinks she is a tough dog and has to bark at other dogs or bicyclists on the street, etc. Otherwise, she is not that bad. We can't take her to the ball games now since she barks at the other dogs at the ball park and she barks at people when we are in the car.

She is a very intelligent little dog and we are pleased to have added her to our family. She knows when I don't feel good and she is on my lap all the time to "make me feel better".

If your Pom is raised as a puppy with children, the Pom should do well with kids. Ours goes up to kids and just loves them. If the Pom is raised just with adults, I think that is when there could be some "snippy" attitudes with children. My chihuahua I had years ago did not like children.

I say go for it. Otherwise, I will gladly take another pomeranian in our home. I love the breed!

Nope, Snuggles, my uncle and aunt had two when we were growing up (my brother wasn't old enough to remember them), and they were yappers as well. Though, my Mom's is a friendlier dog than my uncle's were. Their's weren't sociable at all. Always ran and hid. My Mom's will lick you to death, though if she likes you.;)

Our Pomeranian is 13 years old. She is a barker. She kept our two cats up on top of the freezer for six months when we first brought her home. She plays catch with you by bouncing a beach ball off her nose back to you. She also brings her food or water dish to you if it's empty and she wants it filled. I used to think that they were all bark and no bite. There was an alley that I used to run down that had a dozen Toy Pomeranians living in the back yards. They went crazy when I ran by, pawing the ground like bulls and barking like mad. I always thought they were cute. Well, one day, I was running and saw a Pit Bull jump the fence ahead of me into one of the yards with the tiny Pomeranians. I was horrified. But, next thing you know, there's tiny Pomeranians leaping over fences into the yard with that Pit Bull. In no time at all, their yapping had that Pit Bull on the ground on his back with his paws over his ears whimpering like a whipped pup for his mommy. Then again, maybe it wasn't a Pit Bull. It was some kind of bull, because I know there's bull in this story.

We bought my mom a Pomeranian for a companion after her stroke. She loves this little dog like a child.

The things I don't like about the dog is it's extremely skittish and barks at everything and the pitch sends me through the roof. It paces around alot too. Very nippy with my kids when they were young too. If my mother gets up out of a chair, the dog goes nuts as if to say "who's here, where' you going, what's going on?"

They are very smart dogs though, I must say.

I think they are high maintenance myself, but you'd have to decide that for yourself.

M y question is: If you shave a pomeranian do you wind up with a chihuaha?:teeth:
