I am looking at this to wrangle in the piles of receipts and paperwork. I am wondering if this is an easy program to use, worth the price or is there something better and cheaper?

Thanks

I was looking at this too, for convienance. I have flat bed scanner but think this is easier.....perhaps.
What is the cost? Guess I could look it up.....
WOW, $399 for the full model and the portable is $199.
Maybe the portable unit with income tax money....I wonder if other company's have similar software?

I do not own this but my sister has looked into it for their small business and she found a message board of owners talking about it. Apparantly it is not as easy to use as it looks. They have some bugs to work out of it. Really if you already have a scanner it would be just as easy to just scan it in and put it in the folder you want it to go to. Also I would think there is already a software program out there without having to buy the whole scanner again as well. Also a question she had and was not able to get answered was if the IRS would accept digital copys for tax purposes. Esp. since digital could be altered so easily.

While on the subject of receipt management, is there a product besides Quicken that would work to manage home, business, cost, receipts managment.
I was starting a small business and working for others needed to keep track of receipts for reimbursement and did not keep up with it....

Like OP I would like to start the new year with better cost management. Maybe the software is my need with my scanner instead of this devise.

Looking forward to reading the posts.:surfweb:

Did some looking and Office Max has a scanner too.

For me it is all about the clicks!

I have a high-end HP multifunction printer and I just started using it to scan in receipts. It works beautifully! It scans a PDF file and saves right to my jump drive in seconds. I don't even need my computer to be connected.

Of course it doesn't have all the software that comes with the neat reciept, but I think it's going to work out for me.

Op not to hyjack, but great thread.

It seems to be two part.
First is scanning the receipts
Second is tracking software.

I went over to the link PP and think the software is great for tracking purchases, warrenty, spending and tax purposes.

There is a photo copy of the original receipt along with the data that one enters. A bit more work but for management seems great, and use your own scanner. I did not follow up to the price. I did like the formatt for a business or home use.

Anyone know if Peach tree, Quick books of less $$$ software can do this?

Using a scanner to scan receipts and put in a folder is nice way to hang onto the paperless method to manage.

I am still looking for receipts for Christmas returns I shoved in a purse or pocket....DUH

Earlier today I was saying to DH that I wished our flatbed scanner had a feeder on it as I would like to start scanning paperwork.

Then tonight, I saw the Neat Receipt commercial for the first time.

And now this thread.

Is this a sign regarding my paper clutter? :rotfl:

My only problem is that my Power of Attorney & Executor of my will (2nd after DH) does not own or touch a computer. So computerizing all our records concerns me in that area. DH is gone months at a time for work, and my brother would handle anything for me if something were to happen to me before DH could return or if something happened to both of us.

No filing cabinet could be an issue for him.

I have been using the Turbo Scan iPhone app. It cost me $1.99 and has been doing the trick. =)

I was looking at this more for the software then the actual scanner. The commericals look so enticing to say the least. I'm going to go and take a look at the link that was post for the software and hopefully that will do the trick for me. I'm planning on buy and portable harddrive to store all the receipts and bills on so they won't clutter up my laptop! Gotta get more organized this year.

Do you use this will all your receipts or just "special" ones?

What if you need to return something, do you just print out the PDF?

I really like how Target keeps track of purchases based on credit cards.

I hadn't thought of the iPhone route.
Did some research. There is a better reviewed app called JotNot Scanner Pro that support multipage scanns and sends to Google Docs, Dropbox, Evernote & others. Currently only 99 cents.

Sounds handy just to have!

Also a free version to try if you prefer.

I just discovered that I can scan my receipts into evernote. It depends on what type of printer/scanner you have. I have a Lexmark. I added evernote to the programs it can use and it will scan directly into evernote.

In my research I found some programs similar to the iphone app. a pp mentioned however I did not post about it because your information would be able to be accessed online. If you are scanning business documents it would not be a good idea to have them stored online or able to be accessed online for security purposes. This is why I would not use any of the online storage companies. It is much safer to use an external hard drive to back up your information. With these online storage places you do not know who has access to your info. and what they are going to do with it.

Woot has a refurbished portable one right now for $69.99 if anyone is still interested.

I just purchased the wand scanner by viewpoint (http://electronics.hsn.com/vupoint-...60&sf=EC&gs=&prev=&cm_sp=Recommended*PD*right)

HSN has it for the best price around/ software package SD card included. Office Max also has it but they are the same price and don't come with all thes software. From HSN it comes with a OCR, optical Character recognition software that can take a .jpeg and turn recogognize the typed characters and turn them into a editable document. I have not tried it yet,but I think this is what you need for recipets. I bought it for mainly geneaolgy purposed, but also use it for mystery shopping reciepts... as a portable scanner for full size sheets of paper.

I am by no means an expert with this scanner yet. I have used it a few times. I have scanned several around 100 pictures and a few documents and even receipets with it. You do have to scan at a steady rate. It's pretty easy and once you get the "hang" of it and so far it works pretty good. It seems to hang up,and if that happens, it leaves a slight "stutter" in the picture. there are rollers that help you roll over your item an an indicator light that tells you if you are going the right speed. I think when I use this on special items, that I may only have one chance to see, such as pictures at a family reunion, I'll have to scan them 2 or 3 times and then take the best of the 3 for my use. One thing I don't like about this is if you are scanning a smaller photo or cash register reciept, it still scans the full width of the scanner. You have to crop it.

I also have a pandigtal scanner ( portable too) that works great for small items.. reciepts and smaller photos. it's an auto feeder and it is fast, much faster than the magic wand from viewpoint. I think the smaller pandigtal was under 40.00! I think with the OCR software that would be comparable to the neat reciept.:hippie:

I had a chance to talk to DH about this. He wants me to look for a flatbed scanner with document feeder that can scan both sides of paper at once. I prefer it to be a stand alone scanner & not an all in one. Documents & photos. He would like to to also be compatible with Vista & Win7.

And I've been looking at the Paperport software that comes with some scanners but can be bought separately.

Any scanner recommendations that fit DH's criteria?
