We have a 2001 Cabrio. I don't think they made any major changes from '01 to '02 since they discontinued it in 02. Our car has 28,000 miles on it. My husband drives it 10 miles to work and 10 miles home every day. We don't do too many road trips in it.
The car is fun to drive and especially when it's nice enough to have the top down. We got it because it was one of the few convertibles that offered manual transmission (my DH's requirement) that had a trunk big enough to haul his golf clubs. You can probably get a week's worth of groceries in the trunk if it's empty.
We had the brakes replaced about a year ago. It seemed early but apparently the VW brakes don't last that long. We just replaced the mufflers. That also seemed early to us. We had a number of repairs that were expensive, but covered under the warranty. I would definitely try to get ahold of the service record before you buy it. VW doesn't have the best reputation for reliability.
Hope you're happy with whatever you decide.
