Anyone Out There Ever Use Lamisil?

I was wondering if anyone out there had ever used Lamisil? I just found out that I might need to go on it for an infected toenail I have. I am so worried that I will have adverse side effects to it for our upcoming vacation or that the treatment won't be effective. Has anyone taken it? Was it effective? Were there side effects. Thanks so much for helping me out with this embarrasing matter.

I used it and could not finish the med. Honestly, it was so long ago that I don't remember the side effects but I obviously could not tolerate it. My mom used it for the full 3 months and by the end of the 3 months, she had a constant pain under her ribcage. Oh, and it didn't work for her but hers had been infected for about 12 years. She ended up doing the white vinegar 2 times a day and within 6 months, her toenail was fine.

I ended up getting my toenail removed and that worked great.

Other people I know have used it and it hasn't been a major problem for them.

I had the funky itchy SKIN infection (for lack of a better description) on one foot for YEARS. It would come & go, but never go away. I tried everything; even a script from Dr.

Tried Lamasil ointment (from WalMart) & it cleared it RIGHT UP & has never come back. :cool1:

I have a long-time funky toenail too (same foot). Haven't tried the pills yet, due to the side effects. Not worth it to me just for a toenail. My dr suggested soaking the toe in Pine-Sol. :confused3 :confused3 Never did it. Couldn't find anything on the web either.

My dad had the ugliest toes on the planet. He used Lamisel, no side effects and it worked wonders

What exactly is the white vinegar treatment????

I tried Lamisil, but it came back. Unfortunately, what I have is hereditary (sp?). My grandmother has ugly toenails, my dad's are yuck. My brother's are gross, and when I was pregnant with DD I got it. Poor DD is only five, and she has it too now. The foot doctor that DH went to actually said that he doesn't like Lamisil and would suggest something else. I am seriously considering having my toenails removed. I know that it's not going to go away.

This might be an alternative for Lamisil you could use:

Your doctor has to write a prescription for it. It's a clear nail polish that you must use every day for several months. I had a toenail infection a few years ago and this is what I used. It worked, and my infection never came back.

I hope you find something that works for you. Toenail infections are no fun.

Okay you have to do this religiously for 6 months.

Get the white distilled vinegar. Every morning and every evening you want to put a few drops on the cuticle area and then massage it in a bit. You can get a little eye dropper or a medicine syringe to apply it. I didn't believe it when I read about this, but I really couldn't get over it that it worked on my mom. I had already had my toenail removed so I couldn't try it.

Vinegar's acidity has anti-fungal properties. The key is to use this morning and night and supposedly it will destroy the fungus. Any slip ups and you give it a chance to flourish.

Apparently Vicks Vapor Rub and Pine Sol have the same abilities.

Oh, and I also think it's a good idea to soak your feet in a vinegar and water bath once a week.

Hubby used it for his toenail and could not tolerate it. I cant remember the side affect but I think it was an itchy rash.

Thanks Christine....I will print it out and give it to my Mom....

I have not used this one, but a similiar drug that was out 10 years ago. I had the bad toenail for 7-8 years, and the pills worked! Best thing I ever did, 10 1/2 years later it's still gone. It was so nice to be able to buy sandals for the first time in many many years!

I used Lamisil for three months and had no side effects or issues. The oral medication - not the cream or spray.

It cleared up my toes beautifully. Has to be at least 4-5 years since I used it. Worked as advertised for me.

I have one right now that I'm treating with Tineacide, over the counter lotion, and it appears to be working. A pack of frozen ice fell on my toe, which must have cracked the nail bed and led to the infection. :bitelip:

One thing about Lamisil tablets is that your liver function has to be monitored. Any med that requires that kind of monitoring would concern me, especially when you are talking about a toenail. I would try other alternatives before taking Lamisil. You've got nothing to lose.

My mom's started when she dropped one of the metal cans of Hawiian Punch (it was the 1970s) on her big toe. Mine started about 2 weeks after my very first pedicure.
