We have decided not to go to Disney this year. :sad2: Its killin' me!
Nothing to look forward to. Im pretty sad about it. I want to go
even though I know its not a smart financial decision right now. We even paid for tickets last year for this year! They will not expire but it still sucks!
Its hard to see all the good deals and not say, "Ah heck lets go!"

Am I the only one that has to skip Disney this year?:crazy2:

:grouphug: It's hard not to go your favorite place, but look at it as an opportunity to explore somewhere new. Disney is expensive so we go very rarely, but we get away on vacation every year. We rent a cabin in the woods or a cottage on the beach or go camping.

Last year we went camping on the beach - total cost for the week $500 including our food and we got to go to the beach every day, went to the boardwalk, bought souvenirs and just had fun. 2 years ago we rented a cabin on Moosehead Lake in ME for a week for $900, and just hung out and went for canoe rides and hikes and went swimming saw some Moose, played volleyball and that same year we went camping in Truro, MA right on the Cape Cod National Seashore. Again, we went to the beach every day, rode the bike path, went to a flea market, visited Provincetown, went to the Wydah Pirate Museum etc. That trip cost us $425. For an extra $100 we could have gone on a Whale Watch. And I figure these weeks actually cost us less because we would have spent $100-150 on groceries anyway.;)

Find somewhere nearby that you might enjoy going and see if you can afford that.

I'm not going this year. I went in October 2008 and prior to that I hadn't been since April 2002. While it is one of my favorite places, DH hates it. We just got back from a cruise last month and are looking into an all inclusive resort for later in the year.

Sad to say it, but we are doing the same. It's so hard not to book with the awesome deals they are offering plus I also got a 40% off pin :sad2: We have been the last 3 years in a row. Our friends are going in March and it was so hard not to book with them....Sad, sad, sad!!! We need a support group!

We are supposed to go in Nov. at stay at the Poly but I just cancelled last week. I had a 40% off code and so I went all out and booked the Poly. We decided that even with the code we could use the money to pay off the little bit of debt we have (student loan and dr. bill). I hate being so responisble. I have gone every year since 2005 (my first real trip where I got hooked). I am holding out hope though that if free dining is announced, we get back more from the IRS then we think, and we don't need to go for a week, that I might be able to squeeze out a little trip this year. It is our 10 year wedding anniversary this year (Sept 4th) and DH and I would like to spend it at WDW. Ok I am done pouting.

3boymthr,
DH wants to go to Niagara Falls. I guess they have an amusement park close by. I'm going to check that out. We've been to the fall a few times. Its nice but its not Disney! Our youngest doesn't remember going to the falls. I just hope we wont need passports. I heard you might need a passport after June 9, 2009. Even if your driving.

Darcy03231,
My DH is getting tired of Disney and the cost of going. He wants to do something different and less expensive.

mom_of_3_70737,
I'm glad I don't know anyone going, Id be so jealous! I never thought I would want to go back year after year! I like Vegas too! Its not one of our less expensive trips either.:sad2:

Deffenm,
Yes responsibility stinks!! Booking the Poly and canceling! Thats rough! Our income tax has to go towards DH new used car! I dont even get a car out of the deal!! lol I wish you a very lucrative return!!

What kills us is the flight! Sometimes we get a deal. But usually its 1200.
Then you have the airport parking, room, food, wed need more park tickets, all we have left is 4 days each of water parks and shopping!

Oh well maybe next year or the year after.

we're not going this year. we had 2 trips planned but then i became pregnant and i have a fear of flying while pregnant so we had to cancel both trips. (one was in conjunction with a work conf for dh and it was being cancelled on us anyway.)

we did however make plans to go in january 2010 as soon as my vacation time renews. :) we'll get there as soon as we can! :)

This was me last year. We didn't get to go because we had a lot going on and we really needed to build up our savings account. I pouted, but DH wouldn't budge. Although I was sad about not going, I was proud to be responsible so it was worth it in the long run. I just booked our trip for this next Oct and I am feeling guilty about it. While I really want to go, my DD needs a car and I just found out that we have a slow leak in our pool. :scared: Anyway, for now we are keeping the plan, but I may end up calling it off too.

Look at it this way, it's just one week and a whole lot of money that could save you from disaster. Disney will always be there. :goodvibes

Not going either. We have decided to take the family to the beach so we have a very nice house on Cape San Blas rented. I think we need a break from all things Disney for a little while.

We "tend" to go every other year, with a different vacation in the off year. We haven't chosen a different vacation for this year - probably Washington DC this summer. I was going to go to Mexico over Spring Break for the kids, but my husband got a business trip scheduled, so we will be staying here for that.

We try to go every other year too. I really think it makes it better, however I would love to go every year. It just makes you appreciate it more I think.

On our off years, we do other things as well like the beach & the mountains.
