Anyone NOT going this winter because the discount isn't "good enough"?

We are on the fence. Will still price out a trip once the discount is released to the GP on Monday, but we are leaning towards NOT going. With the R/O discount excluding weekends at value/mods, and "required" room upgrades for the s/p/d because the standard rooms are not available for discounts....the discounts seem to be very lackluster this year. Maybe there will be some PIN codes that go out with some more inclusions, but not holding my breath.

I'm not happy with my 15% off of Grand Floridian for January, but will take it if I can't get anything better. That is the entire purpose of our trip, for me to get a chance to stay at the Grand Floridian, otherwise I would have just not gone. The rate was not within the budget that DH & I discussed prior to me making the reservation, but he was so sweet to agree to the rate we got because he knows I want to stay there so badly. We even cut our planned stay from 5 nights to 4 to save money.

I will still try every other discount I am eligible for. We will be at BWI the first week of November, so I will check for a bounce back at that time. Fingers and toes crossed.

I'd only expect discounts to become more scarce, honestly.
Totally agree. The only exception is if people are waiting for the DHS expansion to be done and postpone their trips, causing Disney to offer discounts. But you can bet once new stuff opens Disney won't offer discounts and some people will be livid about it.

We will still go, but I'm waiting until Monday when I can play around online with dates and resorts -- it's too hard on the phone to look at a bunch of different scenarios. I may have to do a split stay so we can at least get in 4 nights of the deluxe we wanted to stay at....or since I haven't booked our flight home yet, I may shorten our trip.

Last year I believe they offered 30% off at Easter....this year it's 15% at the exact 4 deluxes I was considering. So....I do think AP rates will be a tiny bit better but the question will be if anything is left. In any event, I'll look forward to plugging in different scenarios online on Monday.

I totally agree with this. I hate having to call.

Sounds like we are in the exact same boat. I also want to try GF and it will be our first stay there. It took me a lot to get DH to agree, so I really hope I can make this work price-wise. As of right now, it's really too expensive, so I'll have to find an alternative on Monday....maybe a split stay.

I've gotta get away from PA for at least a week each winter so we're going. HOWEVER, due to the lower discount we are going on a 7 day trip vs. 8 days last year to save about $300 (which puts us at roughly the same cost as last year.

We're running various Princess Half Marathon events, so our trip is locked in. We've had APs on and off for the past several years, but we always strike a balance between Disney and non-Disney vacations each year. Now that our kids are getting older, our travel options are expanding quickly. So for Feb 2016, we have a visa discount WL room only reservation, but will switch to Poly if a standard studio or room becomes available with the discount.

We are still going, we actually are paying $60 more than our original. We booked 3 nights Poly Standard view...and basically every discount had me paying more but a better category, so Poly CL for us. We are APs...we bought APs planning 2 summer trips, so this 3 night adults trip is a bonus to check something off my bucket list.
Maybe an AP discount will come out. Paying $500/night seems less ridiculous for 3 nights and our airfare was $196 total (and no need for rental car), already have APs, so $2000-2500 (depending on our food and drink choices) seems okay for 3 nights away for us right now.

In general, though, Deluxe will not be an option for week long family vacations.
With the resort prices, in general, we are almost to the point where off-site will be the way we go if we return.

The only reason we are going this fall is to get rid of an old 6 day ticket. We are using a room only discount that isn't that much at Music. The free dining offer is getting worse by making you get park hopper tickets.

We are still going but are shortening our trip by a day.

I am still going but changing from GF to Poly club which is less expensive. In addition, I won't be spending as much money eating now. I am extending a work trip so it makes sense to go.

Right now we are looking at Cabana Bay Beach Resort at Universal, $120 per night for a family suite in Feb. Even with the $12 parking fee at Cabana Bay, it's less than Riverside with a 20% discount (which I hear may only apply to weekdays). Disney has raised prices at its hotels by more than the average rate of inflation for more than a decade now, while at the same time seasonal discounts are getting smaller, then there are the add-ons we don't need like the mandatory waterpark or hopper add-on if getting the SPD package. Of course it doesn't help that the Canadian dollar has depreciated about 25% against the US$ in the last year & half. Cabana Bay looks great from what I've seen on youtube, and Universal's has some great attractions at its theme parks. Still, we will probably visit the Magic Kingdom on one day during our stay at Cabana Bay, if that's the way we go.

I understand! We are in PA as well, plus my husband can only take vacation time during the winter, due to his job. So unless we want to continue to freeze, we try and head some place warm. A Disney vacation ticks off all our boxes and them some, but we are very quickly getting priced out. :charac2:

We are going but staying of property. 3 bedroom condo plus parking for the same price as a value. We are driving because airfare as of now is ridiculous.

As of right now, I've decided to cut our 8-day GF RPC trip to a 5-day stay there. I've booked POR for the first 3 days. I'm still not done looking, though, so this isn't final. GF is way too expensive at full price so I really need a better discount than 15%. AP mostly likely be 20% and if my dates apply, then it might work for us.

We have 4 days mid week at POR and with the 20% off and taxes, it comes to over $170 per night garden view. Sorry, but that doesn't sound like any moderately priced room I've ever booked, especially since the rooms aren't that big. We would go with standard but afraid we would be stuck way out there (could happen anyway, I know).
$684 for 4 nights room only is not a bargain in my book and if it wasn't a special occasion trip, I'd cancel. We have been going for 30+ years and Disney has slid from profit making to pure greed. Let's face it, most of their parks are so torn up with construction they wouldn't have been concidered complete enough to open their gates in the old days. This may be our last trip, which is sad, we love the memories cultivated from years of being treated as a welcome guest, not like now when I feel like a mark.

We decided not to go. And so far I am unimpressed with the early January discounts....Off site options are also getting a little more pricey. We really love on site, and frankly right now don't want to do a Disney trip without staying on site, just doesn't feel the same. We might just have to start getting used to the idea, though :(

Cabana Bay is awesome! You won't regret it. My 11-year old and I had a blast there in April. She didn't want to leave to go to POFQ after our Universal time was over. Have fun!
