Anyone not get any gifts when taking tour?

Tony,

"Larry, The Cable Guy" has obviously been taking lessons from you and your family!

Tom:lmao:

Bought 2 times ('98 and '05); got nothing the first time, got nothing plus a small ice cream the second time.:sad2: We didn't even know that there were "gifts"!
However, with our first buy, we got a nice canvas carryall (with the DVC logo) in the mail, along with our official papers.:thumbsup2

We never took a tour so I can't speak from experience. However, based upon what I've read, the larger-value items (gift cards, meal vouchers) seem to most often be offered in advance as an enticement--particularly if you agree to tour during what are probably peak theme park hours. In other words, if you walk up to a booth and show some interest but don't immediately jump at the opportunity to tour, the CM might offer a little more to push you over the edge.

I would agree with that. I only got ice cream, but I walked up to the DVC booth in DTD and asked for a tour, so no extra enticement needed. If I had wanted to play games I could have just showed a little interest and waited to see what would have been offered to keep me around, but 1) it was my last day at WDW and I didn't want to waste a lot of time, 2) I knew I wanted to take the tour and 3) it's not really my personality to play games like that.

Of course there's nothng wrong with those that do want to wring out every freebie that they can if they want to put the effort in.

Remember the old lunch vouchers? We got three of those and the kids had ice cream.

I had forgotten, but on our first tour (over at BW office) we did get cotton candy, choice of cookies and drink (I only remember coffee and lemonaid).
We were also given a small wrapped container of candies as we left (sort of like m&ms, as I recall).
We only happened to stop in at the DCV office at BW; we had declined a tour a few years before that since we didn't want to lose time in the parks that visit. (!) What a mistake that was -- delayed becoming members by 3 or 4 years. :upsidedow

When we were at WDW last March we were given Ice Cream, 2 free CS meal vouchers, and ride to the magic kingdom. One thing that was nice though is the ride we got from Epcot to SSR sales room. We got to see Epcot's backstage area. I swear it was bigger than the actual guest area!

Did they give any of these meal vouchers back in 2001?

The reason I ask is because we were doing an add-on and had made an appointment with our guide to do the paperwork. We showed up at the correct time and he was with another client and I guess they bought right then. He said he would be tied up for about 2 hours (not sure why it was that long). We offered to come back and he didn't offer us anything for our trouble. I just thought that was kind of tacky.

Let it go Muushka!!!:sad2:

So does anyone have a reason why some families get dinner vouchers/fast passes, versus the cookies/lemonaid (which I thought was complementary and out at the DVC tour building no matter what) or ice cream.???:confused3

I think it depends on what's available to them at the time. We didn't get anything other than a ride in the van and some ice cream afterwards either. Did I care? Nope, I got the best part, which was the information.

We went in Sept 06 and just got the ice cream. And the van ride, of course! Our kids had a great time playing video games, coloring, being read to - they didn't want to leave!

We also went on the tour at Disneyland and got pins when I talked to the guy at the booth. At the tour we didn't even get a drink. I think they were brand new then, it was pretty nuts and bolts (Jan 05). We're going back to DL this month and will probably do another tour to find out what we can about the Grand Calif Villas. We're West Coasters, so a DL resort is what we've been waiting for to purchase. It just doesn't make sense for our home resort to be 3000 miles away.

I'm getting on that waiting list if there is one. We will buy. I can't wait!!!

We took ourselves over to SSR and they told us to take us a self guided tour. We didn't get a drink or anything but we did see the rooms, that's it! We bought a resale from the Timeshare Store when we returned home.

We originally did the tour on our honeymoon in 1999 and received nothing. When we returned in 2001 and bought points my DW asked if they had any "freebies". We were given meal vouchers which we used at Beaches and Cream.

In 1997 we planned a week's stay at a resort on either the Gulf or Atlantic coast before we spent a week at WDW. My beautiful and inteliigent wife suggested that we stop at the old Disney Center in Ocala on the way down to ask if Disney recommended any places to stay. What a great stroke of luck! They mentioned the new Disney Resort at Vero and since we knew Disney meant quality we booked immediately. Once we arrived we fell in love with it and found out that this was a DVC resort. We had heard about DVC on our 2 previous tripss to WDW but did not know much about it. Once again my brilliant wife suggested that we check it out and right after the tour we bought 265 points. We received 2 Vero Beach Grand Opening beach towels, a large beach carry bag, 2 DVC frisbees and a couple of DVC thermos jugs. That night (I don't know if this was connected or not but our daughter was given a stuffed manatee as we ate dinner at Sonya's). In retrospect the "gifts" may have been because we purchased at VB during the early stages of it's sales.

We purchased at VB because we knew that there were only 6 Beach Cottages and we would need the 11 months reservation window to reserve them. We absolutely love Vero Beach (except for the "no-seeums"). We added another 100 points in 1998 and another 100 at HH in 1999. We have been able to take our extended family (22 people) on vacations 3 times since 1999 on two week vacations (Beach Cottage and 4 inn rooms at VB for 1 week and 7 rooms at the BCV for another week). Plus we have enjoyed introducing friends to WDW and DVC (some have since joined DVC themselves).

Our daughter has had a wonderfull family vacation with cousins, friends and family and now is presently an intern at Disney World (Vacation Planner) under their College Program. The DVC is one of the best things our family has done.

When we first toured the BCV in September 2002, we were given a bunch of cotton candy as we were the last tour of the day, and they were trying to get rid of it. We didn't buy that time.

Next trip in September 2004, there was a sign at the DVC desk in WL that said tour DVC and get $100 in dining. So DH and I went for a morning tour of SSR on our down day and fell in love. So we left with both $100 towards dining, but also our own piece of the magic.

We took the DVC tour about two weeks ago -- I quizzed the rep at the theme park pretty good -- he told us about the VIP Fast pass cards -- so we were looking for those when we went in -- got em too - plus ice cream and a family picture

bought last week at SSR thanks to the referral program -- good deal

Mule

I stayed at Wilderness Lodge in Aug 2004 and they had an advertisement in the room that I would get $100 in Disney dollars for taking the tour. They also offered us lemonade and cookies at the beginning and ice cream at the end of the tour. The Disney dollars were actually 2 $50 gift checks.

I did the tour in November and we got the ice cream at the end and a free family picture. I just bought in this past Saturday ! Now I am trying to plan my first trip home ! :cool1:

Now I feel bad.:sad1: I have only gotten ice cream and had my picture taken, yet I have purchased 900 pts in several smaller contracts, and gotten 3 people to join. Man, I feel like I have been gypped--not even a lunch voucher!

We also stayed at Wilderness Lodge but in Feb 2005 and they had the same advertisement, $100 in Disney dollars for taking the tour. We took the tour and the $100. In Dec 2006 we took the tour again and pocketed $45. They also offered us drinks at the beginning and ice cream and cookies at the end of the tour. I told them "cookies, I don't need no stinken cookies". I ate the ice cream though.
