Anyone nervous about Delta?

We leave on April 29th and I hope the airline is still in operation at that time. I'm not sure what happens with our tickets if they are forced out of business should the pilot strike become a reality. I have this fear of scrambling for tickets on another airline and having to pay $500 a ticket.

Very nervous! But luckily raised by a road-tripping Dad who thought nothing of going from NH to Cleveland to Baltimore in a weekend so I am prepared to drive if it comes down to it. I am not willing to wait in JFK for standby on another airline when we have a new Sienna with a DVD player, wireless headphones and 2 iPods. It could take as long to get on another flight as it would take us to get there!

though i'm not going down till end of August, still i got great rates out of NY JFK - Orlando........

Don't know what i'd do.............

You may want to come up with a back up plan....it is best to cover your bases now then trying to think of something the day before you leave. I don't fly Delta, no matter how good the price. They are too unstable, between the talk of bankruptcy and now the threat of strikes.

Doing the exact same here. Dh said, "if they strike, we'll drive". We've even booked an SUV from the airport where the flight is meant to be. If we get there and it's cancelled, we'll hop in the car. My kids will be much better at sitting in the car for the drive (we car travel a lot) than waiting to go standby at the airport. We were going out fo Buffalo so it'll be 20+ hours, but we'll make it work. The kids' gma just sent them a whole whack of movies for Easter so we'll save them for the potential road trip.

I am VERY nervous too...we are to leave on the 19th on Delta...I called yesterday and I swear the guy who answered was in India or something said that we have nothing to worry about. I hope that he is right. He said that if the strike was to happen that they would get you on another airline, I am concerned too because we booked our flights with NWA frequent flier miles.

But I just keep talking myself off of the ledge with what happened with NWA, they worked it out and I am sure Delta will too! OR THEY BETTER!

I wouldn't trust the dude that said they would get you on another airline. Everything I've read says there are fewer seats and more travelers this spring/summer and everyone is flying full. We booked with American instead of Delta even though we have to go through DFW(hate this airport)and have a longer layover.

I am booked on Delta May 21-June 3.I am very nervous as to what to do.I got an email from SW for 109.00 1 way.I am thinking of booking this for a back up plan but then if Delta does not strike I am stuck with 4 1 way flights to Orlando!OHHHHHHHHHHHH the decisions on what to do. :rolleyes2

Oh Great! I have a flight booked with Delta for return flight on April 19th!!!! :confused3 I was told by Orbitz that they will not know what the plan is until Delta officially goes on strike - that other carriers usually work with them to pick up the slack... :badpc: This should be interesting, especially traveling with small boys! Yikes!!

Just sick over this. Scheduled to fly on Delta 4/28-5/6. I am so close to booking duplicate ressies on Southwest, but buying airfare twice is hard to swallow. :sad2:

It is certainly a hard decision...we live in Minnesota so we were in the heart of the whole Northwest Airlines fiasco...they worked it out...so I am just holding out that Delta will too...I just cannot justify booking more tickets...would cost a good $600 more...just out of the question. They had some travel expert/agent on the news the other night talking about it here and they were saying that they are still booking people for Delta.

Guess we just have to pray that they work it out...it would be in the best interest of everyone to!

We fly out on 4/18 and I am a wreck! :( I got such great prices since I booked last June - just under $175/pp/rt from Boston to Orlando. We love flying SONG and will miss it when it goes bye-bye. I also have seats booked for the end of august.

If the pilots strike then that will be the end of Delta. I can feel for them, but they will be causing their own job losses.

Let's hope that things work out!!!!

I just did some calling around to the airlines about the strike. Of course Delta told me not to worry that we would be taken care of. I also talked to NWA and the woman there said that she really cannot speak for Delta, but it is very unlikely that they will strike...guess you never know...but they are in the same position as NWA was (which can be to their (Deltas) advantage) that if there is a strike then the company would go bankrupt which can be good in the throwing out contracts!

:tink: THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS!

I have read alot too, and it seems Delta has made it clear a strike would push them into bankruptcy. I also read a head union pres I believe say a strike was not likely. That said, there appears to be a federal law that basically says in case of a strike, other airlines have to honor the Delta tickets and can charge no more than $50 per leg ($100 RT) IF they have room. Personally I think the strike is hype to scare people, perhaps trying to show the execs that mere mention of a strike will cause a panic/loss of busines for Delta. I do feel for the pilots, they have taken quite a paycut already - but as they say you can not get blood from a stone, and Delta appears to be in rough shape financially.

After thinking about it a lot last night and losing some sleep I called this morning and paid $150.00 to change our flights to one way on NWA and another on Continental. I am sure it was a waste, but it works out. Because we were going at a busy time and using frequent flier miles they were going to have us fly into Melbourne, Florida and then we would have to drive into Orlando. Well now we are flying direct to Orlando from Minneapolis and then on the way home we fly from Orlando to Houston, have a layover and then home to Minneapolis. So it isn't bad, sucks because we get in about 4 hours later now to Orlando on the first night but better to be safe then sorry.

After we worked it out, my sanity is worth the $150, but now our rental car savings because of being out of Melbourne is a $70 savings, gas on an SUV both ways would be a good $30, so really then the change cost was $50...not too bad in my opinion. And we lose about 8 hours of Florida time by getting in later and leaving earlier...but they were travel days anyways.

Hope it works out for everyone...I am sure it will!

I'm not sure what to do, either. We're flying Delta in August. I'll have plenty of time to scramble, but we got such a good price (Phoenix to Orlando for less than $800 RT for four people) that I'm afraid we'll get stuck paying a huge amount. I don't even want to pay the $400 more to get moved to another airline if it comes to that. Argh.

Jenny, I am sure you will be fine...they have till August to work it out for your flight...I do not think that they will go under.

Well, we made it! We flew home Delta lat night and this AM via Delta from Orlando, with an unexpected layover in Atlanta due to the bomb scare situation, and caught the first flight home to Boston Logan this morning at 6 AM. Can I just say that sleeping in the airport on the floor/benches is for the birds? We missed our flight to Boston by 10 minutes last night - :furious: How rediculious is it that did not hold the plane?
