I have to say that I wasn't around back then when it was a gravel road!! ;)

Yes the area is called Keystone at the Crossing. There is a large upscale mall there (as well as surrounding stores), many restaurants, and many office buildings. At the time I lived in IN my SO worked down the street past where 86th turns into 82nd near the Castleton Square mall in an office complex there. Traffic in that area, especially Allisonville, can be a killer! :)

Not that this is a deciding factor ;), but there is a great Japanese restaurant in Carmel which I enjoyed very much. It is called Maneki Neko and is in the shopping complex just after you pass under 146th street where 431, 31, and Rangeline all intersect, right before you enter Westfield.

, a lot more so than on the north side of ft wayne.

Actually there are some very nice areas on the north side of Ft Wayne near Dupont Rd.

My fiance is looking at a job

Depends on the job field he is looking into. Warsaw is growing fast and has 3 large orthopedic companies....Depuy (Johnson & Johnson owned), Biomet, and Zimmer. Not to mention that many of the upperclass that live in the Indy, Marion, and Muncie area have lake cottages here in Kosciusko county on the many lakes. Several people that live on the lakes year round drive to South Bend, Fort Wayne and even Muncie so as to enjoy small town/lake living but still have good jobs at places like GM and the orthopedic companies. The lakes to live on with the first as the highest value are: Syracuse, Wawasee, Tippecanoe, Webster, and Chapman.

Personally I would never live in Indy. I prefer small town life and small schools. Granted it may get a bit boring in winter living on the lake but Fort Wayne and South Bend are only an hour away, Indy is 2 hours, and Chicago is about 3 hours.

I have already mentioned Indy, Valpo, & Crown Point. Now a nice word for Ft Wayne. The people there make the town. I found it full of fun folk, an easy town for the newcomer. Best people town in IN IMHO. If that's what you are looking for.
Or live in Chicago with Dan Murphy.
