Anyone letting their AP go?

We have had AP's for a long time now, we usually take 2 family trips and then I usually go back with my special needs son for his birthday.

With all of these packages with dining and the crazy BRP thing I am wondering what the best thing to do for our family would be. I am as Disney planning crazy as the next person but I am starting to get a bit confused.

Our AP's expire in Dec. and I am really on the fence as to weather I should renew. We actually got a cheaper AAA rate for our Dec. trip.

What is everyone else doing?

I am actually letting mine go. I won't be down for almost a full year after it expires so there is no need. However I was thinking of next year even just getting MYW tickets. I won't renew that is for sure but I don't know if I will buy a new one next year.

We didn't renew as we will probably only make one trip this next year. I think we will give MYW a shot for our trip in May/June or maybe even AAA. And if we decide to go more, we will revisit the idea of getting new AP's. Hopefully by then BRP will have worked out all the bugs.

We are going to try to do some Universal Studios trips next year. The kids want to try the new Nick hotel and the rates there are REALLY good with AP's.

this one hit home. I purchased an AP and I have regretted it ever since. I will not renew my AP. Since (IT SEEMS - YOU NEVER KNOW) that Disney is going to continue the Magic You Way Plus Dining. That is the only way I will go to Disney from now on.

Took a trip in January MYW plus dining. Took a trip in May AP rate/discounts.

Hands down winner and still champ MYW plus dining. No more AP for me and my family.

We always let our expire. We get them and take a trip, take on 6 months later and then a third right before they expire. All are 10 night trips. We then wait 6 months and start again. The AP discount is a plus, but 33 days on one AP is a good deal.

I think we are going to let ours go too. I really liked having it for last minute room discounts (in case we snagged some good airfare) and with the changes, I don't think it's worth it anymore for us.

We let ours go when we bought our camper. Ironically, now that we have the camper we go more often, but the campsite pricing beats any resort esp. in the off season. The AAA discount makes that even more attractive and we just buy MYW tickets for more days than we'll need, get the no expire option and keep them till the next trip. With the camper we just don't go to the parks as often, preferring to just enjoy FW. So we don't need that many days per year. The BRP thing was just more trouble than it was worth, given that the campsites are already relatively inexpensive. And we don't need any of the dining discounts since we eat in the camper most meals. If we sell the camper, maybe I'd pick it up again but not for a long while.

We let ours go because we aren't planning to go back more than once within the next year and that one trip will be short - 6 days. But, after that trip, we're going back within the year, so we might buy NEW AP's next October. It all depends on specials - like if they offer free dining again, I think we'll go with that over buying AP's. Plus, when we go in summer of 07, we *might* be staying in a suite. So we'd have to pay rack rate for that anyway, I think. (Can I hope for a AAA discount on a suite? Yeah right!)

I don't think I'll renew mine either. The discounts just aren't that great, and it is frustrating that the dining plan only goes with MYW. Mine expires in February, I am going in 19 days (Yay!) and might try to sneak in a short solo trip at the end of January (yes I'm crazy), but after that I don't think I'll renew.

We let ours expire. We managed three trips last year - 1 scheduled and 2 quick trips
with AP rates. One of those was planned 2 days in advance the first of last January.
With the BPR, we won't be able to take those impromtu trips. Also, I don't think the
rates have been that great this fall. I notice the WDW ads in our local Sunday paper,
and Disney is offering GREAT deals to the general public. Some of them are much better
than AP deals. We'll be back next fall, but I don't know if we'll buy AP's. We might
just take advantage of one of their "paper deals."

I also think next fall, we'll try out Universal. We haven't because we had our AP's,
but now we'll be fancyfree!

Well, I am glad I posted this I thought I was going crazy.

Like most of you we enjoyed taking some last minute trips because we had the AP's.

We will continue to go to WDW but we also have enjoyed the last 2 summers tacking on a trip to Universal.We stayed at the PBH and the new Nick Hotel and both were great. You just can't beat front the line either.

KeepSwimming, For our trip in Dec. I priced out PBH-$234 a night for club level and the Nick is offering a 2 bedroom suite for $125 those were just specials. I don't even want to say what I am paying for BWI.

You do know that hotel isn't near Universal right? I actually think it is closer to Disney than Universal..... (or maybe just in between the two).

It's right next to WDW and actually that's were we stayed this summer when we did our Disney days after Universal this summer.

Too few discounts to make it worth it. I can't keep up w/ the AP discount "game" anymore. I was very sad about it too.

I thought it was closer to Disney. I have gone past it several time taking the back roads to the FL Mall. The ride to Universal from there isn't too bad if you turn onto Universal Drive before hitting the always backed up section of I-Drive. I want to say the turn is near the Peabody hotel.

I've decided to let my AP expire in December. I'm not happy with the nonrefundable deposit now required with the passholder rates. I'm going with AAA rates where I can obtain a refund if I cancel at least five days prior to arrival. I plan on purchasing the 10 day pass with no expiration; I should be able to use it for at least two trips.

Our AP's expire in december. We will not be renewing them.
There are a lot of other destinations I could go to. Like a three week trip bouncing around the Rocky Mountains, A week in Hawaii, An Alaskan cruise, ect, for less than a week in a moderate & a 7 day hopper in WDW.

We're dropping ours in May too. We prefer last minute trips, and loved being tempted by the great AP rates. We most likely won't be making the 4-5 and sometimes 6 trips a year anymore. In fact, I can't more than 1-2. We are looking into other trips..we sort of got in a a Disney rut, since we wanted to get our money's worth on the AP's.

I'm on the fence. Mine expires Jan 9th. I used it this year to get the DDE card, which paid for itself the first trip. I made trips down there Jan, May, & Sept, and am going back in Dec, and again the first week in Jan, so I'll have five trips off of it. However for the Sept trip I got the free dining, so paid rack rate for the room and have a 7 day MYW with pluses left over to use later. I bought the MYW with pluses because originally I planned to take my GD back in May. Now however I'm taking her in Jan. I'm not interested in the water parks, so am debating on whether I want to upgrade my MYW with pluses to a ten day with park hopping or to a regular AP. I like ten day trips, so wouldn't need the nonexpiry option, but am thinking I may want to take another trip in Oct (as well as May). I would like to buy the dining plan though in order to have everything paid before I go, but can't get that if I get another AP (without buying at least a one day base MYW ticket and forfeiting the AP discount on the room).
