Just wondering, I got to take about 1 picture with my flash, then all of a sudden a CM over the loudspeaker said please, no flash photography. Just curious onto why they don't allow flash photography, I could of gotten some pretty good shots if they allowed it but they don't. I plan on riding it again and I will at least get a shot of Johnny Depp w/flash on at the end of the ride.

Because it is annoying and disturbs the experience of other people on the ride to have a bunch of flashes going off.

My suggestion would be to ride at the very beginning or end of the day and see if you can get a boat to yourself.

Flash photography on dark rides ruins the magic for others who want to actually enjoy the attraction.

bah! It ruins the ride for everyone else :) I had someone in the boat ahead of us do it FOREVER before someone stopped the boats and asked them to stop. It's very distracting from the ride

I take pictures without the flash and they come out quite good. There is enough light in the place, and the pictures don't come out looking washed out, plus I bother no one doing it that way. I've been in a boat with someone who took pictures of every scene there was, even after they had been warned not to. It really did get annoying because many times the light was so bright it was blinding.

I did stop after the one picture, I took a few more pictures without any flash and the pictures didn't come out that great, guess I'm used to all of my photos coming out crystal clear maybe.

Because it takes away from the ride for all the other people who like to enjoy it without a million flashes blinding them

I remembered quite a few years ago the people that sat in front of us in our boat videotaped the whole thing with the red blinking light and everything. It was very annoying and I couldn't concentrate on the ride. We had to go again to enjoy and take it all in.

it not only takes away from the experience but for those of us with certain medical conditions it can trigger them in a bad way. I suffer from migraines and have had some nasty ones triggered thanks to flashmongers. .. so imagine if it does that with migraines what it would do to someone who suffers a seizure disorder. . . we all know our boundaries and just expect people to play by the rules. . . that way it makes a great ride experience for all. . okay stepping off my soap box. . . thanks!

The reason no flash photography is allowed on POTC is because during the golden age of privateering (pirating) in the new world there was no flash photography, in fact no photography at all. It is not allowed in order to keep everything authentic.

Disney has stated that if you can make an oil painting or sculpture while on the ride that would be OK since those art forms existed and would be in accordance.

Just kidding of course.

The same thing happened to me! it was soooooo annoying and made everything so bright because of the light on the camera.

I find it really irritating when people take flash pictures on dark rides, because it ruins the experience.

Most dark rides make extensive use of lighting to create the mood and effects. When you use a flash you eliminate the on stage lighting and ruin the look or effect.

Other times there is a glass panel between you and the show. For example the ballroom on the Haunted Mansion or the dinosaurs on the Disneyland Railroad. Your flash will only produce a big white spot in the middle of the image where it reflects off the glass.

Finally, in dark rides the guests eyes adjust for the low light. When you use a flash the other guests' eyes readjust for the brighter light making it difficult to see until their eyes adjust again.

If you do not have a good enough camera to take low light photos without a flash you are better off buying postcards since photos using a flash will never look like the ride because the flash washes out the stage lighting.

Guess I should of thought of that before I bought my current camera. Next time I buy a camera I'm gonna make sure it's able to take good pictures in low light situations. My current camera has many different options as far as what sort of picture your taking, even when the camera was set to take pictures at a nighttime setting, the photos still didn't come out that great in the ride. The pictures are viewable, but still kinda dark. The Jack Sparrow picture at the end did come out pretty good however.

That's me.

After having Lasik done, I've had bad stuff with my vision, other than being about 20/20. One problem is that I have serious problems going from light to dark and back. It HURTS my eyes to deal with sudden changes.

So, VegasMike, if you are in a boat near me, and you take a flash picture, you will HURT me. And I will very likely not be able to see properly for at least a minute, thereby ruining part of my ride.

If you have manual adjustments you can make, I'd try that. I have an S3 and when I use the nighttime mode it takes AWFUL pictures. They are so grainy, or I guess "noisy" is the word to use for them. I am fairly sure I could figure out a way manually adjust something, but that takes brain power I just don't have right now, so I enjoy the pictures I CAN take, and if I needed something to look at, I'd seek out someone else's pictures to ogle (nostalgicdad, darkbeer on other boards, etc).

You're one of "those guys" - eh?!

At least you stopped taking flash pix - it's usually the ones who act like they don't understand English who won't stop flashing.

Are you really planning on using flash, after hearing the explanations here?

First off, Thank You for stopping!! I hate it when people take flash pictures, not only does it ruin the experience for me and mine but it can (and has) triggered migraines in me. Which result in me having to go back to the room and lay down for hours on end, or very possibly being physically ill depending on factors like how bright it is outside, how many flash pictures are taken and a few others. Basically me getting a migraine can ruin our whole trip so please refrain. :) I've never taken pics inside Pirates, I'd rather just remember it and enjoy it every trip. :)

I have to jump on board. A family behind us kept taking flash pictures in March so anytime I turned my head to look at something I got flashed with their camera. It was very rude, I wish they had told them to stop over the loudspeaker system.

Our last trip to DL, on Haunted Mansion, the buggie in front of ours had a couple that kept taking flash pictures. Kept blinding me. Now, I don't get migranes, but we waited 30 minutes to ride HM and didn't want to have to wait again. At one of the parts where you are side-by-side the other buggies, it happened again!! My husband leaned out and said "No Flash Photography Please!" They stopped. :)
