Hi

Does anyone know when the new smoking rules - the one where you cant smoke in a pub/ restaurant come into force?

We are going out tonight and it got me thinking. I have a new jacket and even though i would love to wear it - I wont because I know I'll come back stinking of smoke.

Just curious???

Ive just found out the answer!!

So FYI

Scotland went smokefree in March 2006
Wales is going smokefree on 2nd April 2007
Northern Ireland is going smokefree on 30th April 2007
England is going smokefree on 1st July 2007

;)

Smoking ban in Scotland was fantastic. It is great going out and not coming home reeking of smoke.

Having just returned this afternoon from Scotland, and being a smoker, i can say from experience that it is better for everyone....the hotel smelt much better inside!! Slightly cold at night standing outside having a cigarette but hey, what the heck! I bought a fake fur coat, from M&S, which was put to great use. It will be a great move forward for England.

It can't come soon enough. Having woken up this morning after being in a dirty smokey atmosphere last night coughing like a 60 a day person and i have NEVER had one in my life roll on the 1st July!!!!!!

I agree it will be great, to be able to eat out a restuarant with no smoke. There is lots of restuarants we don't go to just because they are smokey.

When I had very long hair I was petrified I was going to be burned alive by a stray cigarette.

I hate going out & coming back smelling, roll on July!

Another one here who cannot wait for this to come into effect :thumbsup2

yet another vote for 'can't wait'. One of the things we love about Florida is the fact that we can go to bars and clubs without coming home smelly.

I'm a smoker but I completely agree that this is a good thing. From a selfish point of view this means that I won't be smoking nearly as much, and hopefully will mean I will be able to stop completely soon. There are a few pubs around here that have already done a refurb and enforced a no-smoking policy and it is so nice to come home without choking on the smell or to stand there without my eyes watering all night, yes as a smoker I am still looking forward to this ban:thumbsup2

As a non-smoker, I've always accepted that, if I'm going to frequent pubs, I have to put up with it. I don't like it, but I don't have to go into a pub (and these days, I don't very often).

We were in Dublin in November and all the bars there are now smoke-free. It was bliss. Most of them seem to have 'beer gardens' for the smokers - outdoor areas with patio heaters - and it certainly didn't seem to be affecting trade at all.

there doesn't seem that many smokers in our midst !! perhaps thats why we can all afford holidays to wdw;) ;) ;)

Oh dear :sad2:

I'm not a smoker but, unfortunately, DH is (totally not condemned by his surgeons as he has a terminal brain tumour and the medical opinion appears to be that the stress from not smoking, for him, will far outweigh the disadvantages of carrying on..........)

I've already spent many a solitary hour sitting in various 'none smoking' areas whilst DH puffs away outside .... and that's way before the laws become compulsary :)

I agree, wholeheartedly, that it will be lovely to frequent pubs etc and not come home 'reeking' of smoke but, unfortunately, for us, as a family, it's meant that we now are able to spend very little time together.

The ban, although welcome for most, can never be 'clear cut' for everyone :hippie:
