So, we're finally recovering from how much it's going to cost next August for a fly-drive compared to May and October for our last 6 trips, or more importantly DH is still in shock

Our trip next year is 17 nights, 12-13 of which will be spent at our friend's apartment nr Fort Myers beach:sunny: , then back to Orlando for four - five nights. We only want to spend this amount of time in Orlando since we all felt a little "parked" out last October when we came back (sorry all you die-hards!). We know exactly what two Disney parks we want to go visit (MGM and AK) and both Universal parks (our faves).

What I'm trying to figure out (for the sake of DH's sanity) is the 'best' time to go in terms of crowds and, more importantly, in terms of $$ for either Disney or Universal hotels for our Orlando stay.

I know there is a date around the middle of August when the rates drop - does anyone know when it is. I have two trains of thought. We go on 1st August (so I can have my birthday over there on the 3rd ), but that means we'd be in Orlando on 13th/14th when I think it will still be quite busy/more expensive, or go later - like the 8th/9th August, staying in Orlando 20th. Unfortunately this would be the absolute latest we could go owing to DHs work commitments, in fact he's had to get special approval for us to go away in August - for the first time ever! This is because I now work for a school so cannot take time out of term time like we have in the past, DD is now in secondary school and would not want to take her out. DH is away at a big trade show last week August, 1st week September

Any ideas from anyone who's been out there at this time of the year much appreciated ::yes::

We have visited in July /August 4 times. The rates/crowds drop around the middle of August. According to my DVC Vacation Planner, which dropped through the letterbox about an hour ago, Magic rates becomes Dream rates from 16th so I would hazard a guess that if paying with $$$ it would be from then too.

Although I can understand you might like to visit over your birthday, I'd opt for a lower crowd level.

I'm sure you'll make the right decision for yourselves.

I think the last couple of weeks in Orlando are quieter, what a hard choice you have :)
