You take a certain # of pills the first day (I think it's 6), then 5 the next day, then 4, etc. I'm not sure, but I think it's some kind of steriod/antiinflammatory/painreliever. DM just Emailed me and told me that the doctor gave it to her after a fall which injured her tendons. She doesn't know what the medication is, but I'd like to find out. Anyone know?

The only medicine I have ever taken like that were steriods... legel of course

Wanted to add, if that's all he prescribed for pain, I'd be finding a new doctor!

I agree with prednisone--other names are metrol, prednisolone...I think there are a few others as well--it's used to reduce inflammation and is also an immunosuppressant.

Prednison-prednisolone-or a medrol/medlone pack. All the same thing. Steroids.

YES they can be used for pain management. When I was being treated for chronic daily headaches, the nuerologist was desperetely trying to get the pain under control with standard migrain meds. When it didn't work, he gave me a medrol pack (prednisone). BLESS HIM. It was the most wonderful relief. Albeit temporary.

Initial treatment for a tendon injury is 'not' steroidal but rather rest and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Get the name of the drug. Sometimes a corticosteroid injection is used to relieve pain and swelling but usually thats done after initial measures fail. Tendon injuries can take a long time to heal.

Thanks so much for giving me the name of the medication. Now I can look it up and get info on it. BTW, I probably wasn't clear-she had the fall a month ago. Has been treated with NSAIDS and Hydrocodone for pain (neither helped, she says) and given shots (after X-rays). Apparently, nothing's really worked and she's frustrated. Being in her mid-70s adds to the fact that tendon injuries are slow to heal anyways.
