Just curious what the current DVC offerings were on recent sailings on DCL

Is this an add on or a new purchase as a new member?

Not my thread, but I would like to know what the incentives for a new member is. Thanks.

I can only speak for our specific circumstances. We were on the DCL Alaska cruise 6/14-21, and purchased into DVC at AKL. The incentives for our purchase were:

  • pp discount based off of number of points purchased: 160-219 points got a $10 pp discount. 220-319 points got a $18 pp discount. 320 and up got a $20 pp discount.
  • February UY vs. June UY
  • Prorated dues from date of signing, as opposed to Feb. UY
  • Disney Visa Gift Card from $300-700, based on number of points purchased
  • 18 VIP fast passes, good for twelve months from closing

Hope that helps!

February UY vs. June UY

I'm not sure I'm understanding this -- is the incentive that you get a Feb UY instead of a June UY if you didn't buy on the cruise? Or was the incentive that you got to choose and otherwise you don't have a choice?

Sorry, I'm confused :confused3.

We were on the Alaska sailing right before you, and our incentives were quite a bit different than yours. The pp discount wasn't as good as yours (ours was $10 for 160-219 pts., $14 for 220-319 pts., and $16 for anything over 320 pts.), we were only offered BLT with a December UY, we got the prorated dues, 2010 points, and a $500 OBC. Maybe we could have bought elsewhere and requested a different UY, but I didn't know any better because I hadn't done my research before we left.:scared1: I'm not sure which incentives were better--the ones for the June 7th sailing or the June 14th, but I'm surprised how they change so quickly. So did you get points for 2010? They said that was a good deal, but I didn't know if that was something they typically do or not.

Sorry, I should have clarified. As it was explained to me by my Guide, purchasing in June should have given us a June use year, with our first allotment of points for the June 2011 year. However, we were given a February UY, with an allotment of points for February, 2011. In essence, we only have to wait 8 months until our next 250 points.

It sounds like the "trade off" between sailings was that we got February '11 points, vs. your receiving December '10 points. In exchange, our discount was higher for anything over 220 points. Or, it could have been for the resort...I understand BLT has a higher percentage of points sold versus the total available, and they're still actively selling AKL. Dunno which answer it is though...

Also, instead of a $500 OBC, we receive the VISA gift card (which, I might add, we get after making 2 payments on our loan).

Like you, I am surprised that they changed that quickly. In fact, we were told that we technically should "sign the papers" by Sunday to get the VIP passes...as that was the cutoff date for that specific promotion. Probably was just a "if you act FAST" gimmick, because they didn't have any Sunday appointments available...I signed Monday with the assurance of receiving the VIP fast passes.

They kept saying that our cruise was the last cruise where they'd be offering the pp discount, points from the previous year, and the $500 OBC. I just figured they were also trying out the "if you act fast" gimmick, but it does sound like they change up their offers a bit. I wonder why we were only offered BLT? Maybe if we had inquired, we could have bought somewhere else, but I honestly never dreamed we would buy in to DVC on that cruise, so I hadn't read a thing about it. Poor planning on my part, but I'm still happy we bought in.:lovestruc Hope you had a great cruise! Sounds like your weather was a little bit nicer than ours. Ours was good but a bit chilly on several days. Gotta love Alaska though!
