in England? Being stupid and I cant find them, I'm getting cold feet taking the kids out of school for 21/2 weeks in November trying to work out costs to include Oct half term..

We have never found including Oct half term costs any extra doing DIY, even had some great deals on packages in the past. We went this Oct half term just for the week, indirect flights were available around £400pp
Kirklees are having 29th Oct week, same in Leeds, check your LEA website.

:thumbsup2

Thank you, 29th it is. So If we can go on the 29-30th they will only miss 9 days schools and we get 2 1/2 weeks holiday happy days !

So I shouldnt expect to pay more for flights? hoping to find them for £400-£450 each.

ours is the week before ... Merseyside has agreed it will always be the last full week of October so its the 22nd

Are you stuck to going into Nov?
We always preferred to take the 2 weeks before Oct half term, we found they did less work running upto a holiday than when they come back after.
Also temps in Oct can be a lot better than Nov, this Oct half term was a little cooler than we would have liked, although that can vary year to year.
The more date options you have the better it is to find cheaper flights.

They told us that about 10 years ago, our school actually published the dates in a letter then when the LEA updated its website they were a week later. Had to cancel VH package losing £360, thankfully re-booked DIY cheaper than the original package so we were better off.

We have booked for Free dining 5-15th Nov and want to see the Christmas side of things, we want a week in Orlando before we do Disney so those dates give or take a couple are set now .

This, presumably, mean you're not back in the UK until Friday 16th, meaning your students would miss 10 school days. If this is indeed the case, I'd check with your school as to whether they'll authorise this much holiday. It'll depend on a number of factors including the age of your children, but I wouldn't want to book flights until I knew for sure. :goodvibes

Yep sorry 10 days. The school will not authorize ANY holiday and it has to go down as unauthorized..

You still should speak to the school, or LEA, to find out what kind of attendance counts as cause for concern. Also, if they will not authorise ANY holiday, I'd want to know what the outcome would be if you choose to go anyway (I'm assuming you will not be the first person to do that!) :confused3

I already know the outcome and have spoken to the school, slap on the wrist :) gets worse after 10 days absence :)

Although my friend has just come back after taking their children of school for 2 weeks and because they were renewing the wedding vows they were granted holiday no problem - food for thought :thumbsup2

Sounds like you've done your research.

Has anyone else noticed that the "half terms" seem to be moving away from their months? This year, "May" half term is in June. Next year, half of October half term is in November. :rotfl:

Just jumping in .....and totally off topic

Haven't I seen you flying your plane around the skies of Orlando, writing you name in smoke? :goodvibes

We have booked to go on 29th Oct which is the beginning of our half-term holiday in the Midlands.:thumbsup2

Just looked at ours in Solihull and they break up on the 26th October and are back in on the 5th November
