I know its not there now, and they are working on Everest, but I remember the logo of AK when it first started had a Dragon and there was talk of park of the park being devoted to mythical creatures. Has that idea been junked or is there still plans to develop it in another section of the park?

and how do you feel about it, one way or the other?

They haven't said that they're not going to -- that's about all we know for sure at this point.

There have been no rumors even floating around that Disney intends to go forward w/ those plans anytime in the near future.

Well, the Unicorn parking lot hasn't been renamed, so perhaps there is hope. They are adding the Yeti on Expedition Everest, so that is a start.

Adding "Beastly Kingdom".... From your mouth to Robert Iger's ears!!!!

I really hope they do decide to pursuit it in the future! I would love to see something with dragons and other mythical creatures! I think it would go over especially well with the popularity of Harry Potter and similar fantasy stories in kids today.

I believe 'Beastly Kingdom' was originally going to be another area in the park from opening but has constantly been pushed back to the point that even they may have forgotten about it! On the old Discovery Island Boat Tours there were dragons and other beasts in caves and alcoves...another hint toward the forgotten area.

This rumor surfaces every so often. Before AK was built one of the lands was supposed to be Beastlie Kingdomme. Because of budget cuts Disney delayed the building of Beastly Kingdomme and built Camp Mickey and Minnie and put the show Lion King in that area to keep the area ready for Beastlie Kingdom.
My understanding is that because Lion King and Camp Mickey and Minnie are so well liked that Disney scraped the whole idea of Beastlie Kingdomme.
They really had some great ideas on the drawing board and many people would like to see them become reality but I fear the chances of that happening are slim.
We can always hope.

Here is an article about some Disney attractions that were designed but never built. The Dragon Tower attraction was originally slated for Beastlie Kingdomme land planned for Disney's Animal Kingdom park in Florida. This article gives one a virtual walk-through of Beastlie Kingdomme and the ride Dragon Tower.

Thanks for the link.... now I am even more depressed! Couldn't they just move Festival to a renovated Tarzan Rocks Theatre, since that show is leaving and lets face it, Pocohontas could go just about anywhere, and build the "dream" land of Beastlie Kingdomme? Animal Kingdom could use a good dose of new attractions, and why waste a perfectly wonderful idea. Especially if the rumors of the rights of Harry Potter going to Disney, not Universal are true!

Attendance has been up, so now is the time to start the motors running and put in some really GOOD attractions! Not to say I don't enjoy Soarin' and can't wait for Expedition Everest, but Lights, Motors, Action was a disappointment to my family, and Cinderellabration is totally geared toward little girls fantasies, so lets beef up the newest park and give it a chance to become of one of the "not to missed" parks, instead of the one that many people skip, if only going for a few days!?!

I am really behind... Tarzan is leaving and Pocohontas is coming? Is tha the show they used to do at MGM? If so I am thrilled, I loved that show.

If that's true, I'm bummed, we loved Tarzan rocks, we thought it was one of the best shows there. Pocohontas was a yawner, in my opinion, but maybe it was aimed at a female audience? Anyway, I'd hate to see Tarzan go, it was fun.

Tarzan is leaving in the next few months... early 2006 I believe. I think Disney has confirmed that. I heard a nemo themed show is coming but dont know how true that part is.

Yep, I remember this, and do you have one of the McDonalds glasses that has that ride on it? I do, somewhere. :confused3 I once had an argument with a CM at AK about that ride, she claimed it NEVER exisited! :earseek: I said how could that be, when I rode it in August 1999? :rolleyes1

Funny you should ask-we just went to a talk about AK today:) They still have the dragon at the entrance and on the logo merch so I guess it could still happen!

If you want to see how BK would have looked find a copy of the WDW 25th anniversary book “Since the World Began,” published in 1996 Look on the bottom of paget 171 and you will see an image of the entire Beastlie Kingdomme land .
They were showing a previw of the AK which was going to be built.
That was the one area I was really looking forward to.
But alas it has NOT yet come to be.
One Day hopefully.
I can dream. Can't I.

They certainly could, and they'll probably do something like that when and if it becomes the most profitable utilization of their available capital.
