Anyone know how to get Elmer's Glue off the wall?

About 4 years ago, we wallpaper bordered my new baby's room with self adhering wall paper border. It was great to put up since you just stuck it on the wall ~ no paste, glue, nothing.....

Well a few months after putting it up, it started to fall down so we'd press it back on & all was well for a couple weeks. Needless to say, it kept falling off in spots, so my DH took a bottle of Elmer's glue & in some areas, he squirted the wall so that the wall paper border would stick on. It did the trick. Although, here we are 4+ years later & althou we were able to pull the wall paper border off, there are areas where there are "squirts" of dried glue.

He tried using a putty knife to scrape some of it off but it was tearing the drywall too. He's also tried sanding it & only a tiny bit came off that way. Does anyone have any other ideas? I have one of those steamers....do you think steaming the glue would work? Any other suggestions?

While I'm in no way an expert I would definately try the steamer since you already have one. It might melt the glue. We have a steamer and it was a life saver when we removed the wall paper in our bathroom

maybe gum/tar remover. I would try it where it wouldn't be noticed just in case it takes off the paint

I would call Elmer's and ask them. They will know what will "melt" their glue.

Isn't Elmer's water soluble?

My DD glued a picture she had drawn to the wall, when I found it, the picture had been up a few days -- I pulled the drawing off (carefully so we could save it) and it left some glue and paper on the wall --- I just wet it down really good and rubbed - then wet it down and rubbed some more - until it finally came off

and another trip -- hair spray takes permanent marker off walls, caution though--will strip paint

Yes. Simply soaking it should soften it up.

A nail polish remover that is not made for use with acryllic (sp) nails may work too. (the ones made for acryllic nails are made to not affect the glue on the nails, hence wanting one that will loosen the glue).

My thought is the same as others...isn't it water soluable. I would try that first and then go for the goo be gone stuff! Hey she knows what she is talking about, lol!
