I have recently read about a few DIS'ers that got picked to blow the horn. what is the secret? I imagine it is like the other special moments..... right time and right place, but if there is a way to increase the odds..... I want to know! :cool1:

Have to be celebrating something special? I'd love to know this too! Andy?

I prefer to think of it as a little bit of magic and keep it at that. If I'm ever choosen I will relish it. I think however that if people start trying to figure out the secret or ask (or in some cases demand) it then I see it going away which would be very sad.

edited to add - I'm not saying anyone here would demand but I've seen other cases where someone got a bit of magic and then someone else demanded it. Very sad.

Yes, as Mary stated, it was just a bit of MAGIC, and that's the way it should be!!!

We'll be celebrating our 5th sailing and probably my 4000th post by then....does that qualify as celebrating "something special"? :rotfl2:

:wizard: Let's leave the choosing of the hornblowing to the excellent captains. I too believe our hopeing, expecting, or demanding would ruin such a special honor. And Princess Jija I'm not saying your an expecting or demanding person...just a super hopeful DISer.

well guys, I understand what you are saying about the magic of the moment. When we were picked to be Magic Kingdom GateKeepers, it was thrilling and defininetely magical. However when people ask how we were picked, I gladly told them the circumstances of how we were picked and didn't horde the information.

And no, I would not demand anything like that. It does sound like you guys are thinking negatively of me just for asking. Disney is amazing and that kind of negative behavior is not my thing. I was just hoping for some helpful information. I enjoyed sharing the information with my friends, and hope that the magic happens for them too someday. :wizard:

I've shared this before on another thread, so it isn't any great mystery. We had no idea this (bridge tour) was going to happen to us. After spending the day on Castaway Cay my DW and I returned to our cabin and found a voice mail message from Guest Services. The message stated that we were invited to join Captain Thord on the bridge for a private tour. At first my DW didn't think much of it, she didn't realize what an honor this was going to be, I was beside myself listening to the message, in fact, I played the message several times just to make sure I was hearing it correctly. Ray, from Guest Services, met us on deck 8 and took us to the bridge to meet Captain Thord. It was then I learned that Captain Thord reads the DISboards and found out that my DW and I were onboard and that we were using this cruise to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniverary. As we were pulling away from Castaway Cay Captain Thord said that we were welcome to push the button to sound the Magic's horn. I gave that honor to my wife, then Captain Thord said there's no reason why the horn couldn't be sounded a second time, that's when I got my turn to sound the horn. It was truly a MAGICal moment for both DW and myself. Below is a photo of me getting ready to push the button to sound the Magic's horn.

Princess V, There's no flames coming from me. I apologize if you thought so.

Verandah Man, Thanks for posting your pictures. The look of your wife is priceless. She looks like she was on cloud 9. :cloud9:

Verandah Man, Wow, what a very cool memory! I agree with taeja71 that your wife's expression is priceless. Thanks for sharing your memories with us. I didn't realize you had posted the info before, I am just coming back to DCL forum as we start to plan for our cruise next year. I really enjoy hearing the stories of magic moments and appreciate you sharing yours. :wizard:

taeja71, thanks a bunch, you are a sweetie! :flower:

Wow, that was :cool1: ! Thank you for sharing that information. And another WOW that is :cool1: that you have been married for 30 years! :love2:

It does make a bit of difference when you hear the story behind! I just love all those pizzie dust moments on the ship! We had many of those! :earboy2:

I think Verandah Man getting chosen might also have had something to do with the fact that he's such a caring, sharing person on the boards. From sending postcard to kids to an encouraging word to posting FANTASTIC pictures emailed from phones so we could live vicariously on the Panama Canal cruise, Andy is really a giver. I can't think of anyone more deserving of the honor of sounding the horn. I'm so glad he and Hazel were chosen.
