I recently started walking to lose some or most of my weight. I am hoping to be a fitness guru by next year. LOL. Anyway, I was thinking a good way to keep up my walking on my cruise is to do "laps". ANyone know how big the ship is? How many laps is a mile? Thanks for any info you might have.

I think I read on a navigator that 4 laps on deck 10 equal a mile.

OOPS! Sorry deck 4.

We were told on board that 4 laps around Deck 4 is 1 mile. Later on I saw post that it is actually a bit farther than a mile.

Hopefully someone has the exact measurement on this.

:)

It is deck four (the walking "track") if you go all the way around four times that equals one mile.. the walk is quite interesting as you go past the rope room which I would never have found if I was not a "walker".

Check your Navigator for the times when one of the fitness center staff leads a mile walk around Deck 4. It is usually about 8 or 9 in the morning. It was a lot of fun!!!

Disney1fan2002 if you don't want to walk it by yourself at 9:00 a.m. everyday there is a programs called Walk a Mile they meet in Preludes, Deck 4, Forward. You can sign up for excercise classes at the spa on embarkment day, they are free and you are under no obligation to show up should you change your mind.
A must do is the Rainforest

What is the rope room?

The rope room is really neat! It is where they have all the ropes spooled up that they use for docking.

It probably works to your benefit if you can walk with the Preludes group. We walked or ran every day of our Magic cruise, but often hit times when ship maintenance or a drill was in progress. On occasion, portions of the deck were roped off. Hence, you had to turn around an go back.

It wasn't a big deal, but harder to tell how far you had gone. I would guess there is no maintenance or drill scheduled at the time of the organized activity.

So 4 times around Deck 4 is a mile. :) Great to know.

Is it possible to run/jog any of the other decks, like Deck 9 or 10, and how many laps is it to make a mile on one of those decks?

When you do deck 4, is it outside? I'd love to jog in fresh ocean air. :)

Thanks for the info.

The running path on Deck 4 is outside, with the exception the turns around the bow and stern. I remember running around the deck as we approached Castaway Cay. Very cool!

It's a little hard most of the time to run around the other decks, to many people, chairs, tables, servers etc. Deck 4 is perfect and yes it outside. Also check out the gym or workout room the treadmills over look the bridge area. The showers in the spa are great, huge shower heads. Sometime DH and I go down just to use the showers.

I have jogged on deck 4 and deck 10. Deck 10 is definately more scenic but if you don't go early enough, there will be people in your way. If you are an early riser, I would highly recommend it!

Last cruise I walked both deck 4 and 10. Four is definitely easier - less congestion and is even marked for everyone to go in a counterclockwise direction.

Although Disney says it is 1/4 mile around, based on my lap times it seemed longer. Last trip there was a SERIOUS jogger who continually lapped me. I overheard him talking to another jogger and he said it was closer to a 1/3 mile track than 1/4.
