We are going to DS school tonight for Family Fun Night . . .on the flyer it says:

and last but not least:

Cake Walk

Hmmmmm wondering if they are actually going to get to walk over cakes.
:p

Cake walks are great fun! At the ones I've been to, there are as many adults playing as there are children. You are trying to win a cake. Usually, there will be a circle of chairs with numbers on them, or pieces of cardboard on the floor in a circle shape also with numbers on them. You walk in a circle while music is playing and when the music stops, everyone is in a chair or on a cardboard piece with a number on it. They draw a number out of a box or whatever and whoever is on that number wins a cake. Good luck and have fun!

I remember loving the Cake Walk at Fall Family Fun Night when I was in elementary school. I hope you win a yummy home made one!

I haven't heard about those for years!

It's just as described above. It's not always a cake prize, though. Sometimes they have a dessert table to pick something from. Pies, brownies, etc. that have been donated. Have a ball and enjoy!

I enjoy cake walks at my sons school. I never win thought. I am ALWAYS one number off!!!

Ahh, the wonderful memories of cake walks from elementary school. So many years and so many calories ago -- back when I could actually eat what I won without worrying about how much was going to wind up forever stuck to my waist! :p

Eeyoreforever explained it well ... in my day (when dinosaurs walked the earth!) we walked on numbers on the floor while music was played. When the music stopped, we stopped. Then the leaders would draw a number from a hat and whoever was standing on that number won the cake! I can't recall if we had to pay an "admission" (like 10 cents or something) to get in.

My favorite were the nickel cupcakes. You'd pay a nickel for one hoping the one you chose had a nickel in the bottom -- thus allowing you to do it all over again!

The wonderful days of youth and gluttony! :p :p :p
