I've seen $5/day one-way rentals from Florida. Right now, Hertz has them available but not for my dates. We are traveling Mar 2012 and have airfare booked to Orlando, but right now the rates coming back are nuts. I'm thinking about reserving a one-way car rental and taking 2-3 days to drive back to Texas if the airfare doesn't come down considerably. Does anyone know the details on the $5/day one-way rentals? Is Florida to Texas an "approved" route? Are they normally offered in March? Any other details?

Thanks!

These are specials when companies need to move a large number of vehicles between specific locations during specific time frames. I would not count on or use these rates as a basis for determining an applicable rate for your needs/locations. Most of these occur just before summer and just after summer between southern cities and northern cities.

It's usually from Florida or major southern cities to major northern cities, most on the east coast, to move the fleets between the peak tourist seasons. March to my knowledge has not been included, that's still peak for the south.
