ANyone know anything about Unicoi State park in GA?

I just found out that our family reunion is going to be held there this summer. I was just curious what it is like? Also I noticed on the website there is a bike event going on the same weekend. Anyone have an idea of how crowded the park will be? Thanks for any thoughts or tips. DH and I are trying to figure out if we really want to drive down and go.

I am mostly just bumping you up. I haven't been -but I have heard it is a great park.
Also I am a cyclist- and there is usually a pretty big turn out for SORBA type events. I would expect there to be a fair number of people there. Do you already have your reservations?

Can I come also? I love this park. It is massive and really never feels full KWIM. There is a ton of things to do and you are going at a great time of year. Our reunions are usually only a day so I would plan at least a weekend and go into Helen. This little town can get crowded during tourist season. The Park reminds me of Gatlinburg. We haven't stayed in any of the lodging. We owned a timeshare and traveled to the park for Horseback riding, canoeing, and such. I don't think the bike rally will affect your vacation.

I got married at the lodge at Unicoi The lodge is just like a regular motel-- nice rooms, and a restaurant with a decent buffet served three times a day. The cabins at Unicoi are also really neat-many with really nice views of the lake. They're kind of basic (no TV), but very nice.

Overall, it's a beautiful place and area. There are some nice hikes, lots of outdoor activities, beautiful scenery and good food in and around the park! Helen (the "Bavarian" village) is a neat little town, though it's a little cheesy and touristy. I'm German, though, so I love it there.

Thanks for all the input. We haven't booked a place to stay yet. The reunion has rooms blocked off until the April 15. My parents and I are trying to figure out if we just want to book one of the bigger cottages and just stay together. THe reunion is for 3 days and I guess they have the beach house reserved for the whole weekend. Anyone know how the white water rafting is? Is that what it is even called. LOL
