We were just there last week 4/17 - 4/20 and I'm surprised to hear such negative comments. It was clean, had plenty of storage space in the bedrooms and the bathroom, and had lots of activities.
There is no fee for the shuttle, so I don't know what the comment is about. The shuttle times are limited, so your stay in a park has to fit thier schedule. We missed the shuttle one night and it was a $20 cab fair from Sea World to Nick Hotel. To arrange to take the shuttle, there is a small podium in the gift shop where a gentleman was very helpful. (We wanted to go to Aquatica and he called to make sure it wasn't closed due to crowds so we didn't waste a trip). You do not have to purchase tickets from this podium to use the shuttle and it was free.
The hotel is on the expensive side, but if you are willing to splurge a little, I'd say go for it. We only stayed there for 3 days out of our vacation and it was totally about the kids. For adults, they serve liquor!!
There are two pool areas, one for the little ones and another for the older kids. I would avoid staying in a room that opens to the Lagoon Pool, as that is where there is action and noise from 8 am - 11 pm every day. Around 1pm on Friday, there was a Nick style game by the pool where kids and parents participated. My daughter got slimed!!!

And that's for winning!! Next to each pool is a water park type huge jungle gym. Chairs are sometimes hard to find, but I always found them. On Saturday, there was a movie by the pool on a large blow up movie screen. We happened to bring microwave popcorn

(microwave and coffee maker in room), so we were all set. The kids could watch the movie while they swam.
There are activities every day and a full list was posted or delivered every day. If you want to participate in any of the shows at night, sign up early! They were full by 9 am! Customer/Guest Services is located in the mall to sign up and so is the theater.
One negative is that there are no restaurants within walking distance. Part of the hotel complex is "the mall". There is a buffet breakfast restaurant (so-so), Nick Cafe (food is pretty good!), a Subway, A&W and Pizza Hut. We relied totally on the free shuttle, so we ate at the hotel two nights. One night at the Cafe (very good buffet and super burger!)
Since we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge for another 3 night of our vacation (more adult oriented), this was the kid focused portion of our stay in Orlando.
My 11 year old loved it!

I would assume anyone from 3 -13 would like this hotel.
I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. I would recommend it to friends who were looking for this kind of experience, so I recommend it to you!
