My oldest DS will be graduating in May. He wants to become a video game designer. I obviously have taught that boy right, he wants to play for a living LOL. He is seriously considering a technical school in Florida called Full Sail. We will be making a trip down there in January to check out the campus, etc. but wondered if anyone had ever heard of this school. I have nightmares of it being along the lines of the "Learn to be a truck driver in 28 days from the Acme school of trucking" that you used to find on the cover of matchbooks! So if anyone can calm my fears I sure would appreciate it.

Don't have an answer, just wondering where he heard about it and if they have a web site?

He heard about this school from the career center at his high school. They do have a website. I believe that is www.fullsail.com. We have visited this site numerous times. The website looks great.

I am a friend of this messager's son. I'm 19 years old and am currently attending Full Sail right now. I've been going there since September of 2002 and am already beginning my major. Depending on what your child wants to do then Full Sail may be the best thing out there for them. I'm completely happy going to this school as I do not have to take classes that have nothing to do with my major and I have no time wasted.

Most courses are about 14 months long and you learn exactly what you need to know. Also about once a month Full Sail has something called a Behing the Scenes Tour where they take people into the school to show them the facilities available to them. If you're able to go to one of these tours I would highly reccomend it. Also, you can request forms from the school that tell you the hiring rate upon graduation for specific majors, not just the class as a whole. Also the school has a specific faculty for helping students get a job after graduating. I really don't know of any other colleges that help students get a job in any industry after graduation. You may have to move to get the job but it's something you have to consider in any job out there.

Some other good things about the school: after you graduate you are able to go back and take courses in your major for free. So if they come out with a new course based on a new computer language that they make games out of, so long as it's in your major you graduated with you can return and take the course for free. It's a nice touch to an industry that is always changing. For more information on Full Sail they have a website, www.fullsail.com

Like I said before I am currently a student in the Computer Animation degree program and I really like my courses. The school is 24 hours so you can have some crazy class times but it's well worth it when I graduate in a total of 14 months and can get a job staright out of college. I'm gonna go out on a limb and post this but if you want to e-mail me (the student, not the message'ers e-mail) it's Aoi_me@hotmail.com

I may or may not be of certain help as I'm in a different degree program but I do have friends in Game Design and they can fill me in on what you want to know perhaps.

Hi Giggles,
My sons friend just happened to be over when I read your post, so I asked him to respond, hope you got a chance to read it. He is a nice young man, and really seems to be enjoying full sail. I'm not sure if this is still his plan, but I think he had told me he wants to move to Japan and work after he graduates. I guess that industry is huge over there. I know he spent part of this past summer in Japan as well.

Thanks for having him reply EZ. It helped calm my fears and I have passed the address on my son!
