I want to take a short vacation there. It will be just my dh and I. We are in our mid-twenties. We want to stay somewhere close to Shedd Aqua. and Navy Pier. Anyone have any suggestions? Nothing too expensive. We will be taking the train up there, so we won't have a car to get around. We will be staying for two nights. Thanks for any suggestions!!!!

Hi..close to Navy Pier, I prefer the Sheraton Towers...you can walk to NP, close to shopping, nice hotel, small indoor pool on the 7th floor, right on the river, Shula's Rest. inside. Also join SPG and earn points..can be used at the S/D at WDW!

We really like the W Hotels. There are two in Chicago...Lakeshore and City Center. They can be a little pricey, but check sites like www.hotels.com for possible lower rates. That's what I used when we went last year! The W Hotels are pretty contemporary and hip...we really liked the City Center location! It's close to the theter where they put on Wicked. But it sounds like you would want the Lakeshore location as it may be closer to the activities that you mentioned...

Have fun!!

Enjoy your trip to Chicago, it's a fun city. :thumbsup2 Hope these links are still good, working ones and helpful.............

I lived there for four years and still have family there. I am thinking there is or was a hotel with an indoor water park downtown. Do not recall the chain. Not much help, am I? The Museum of Science and Industry and all of that are so close to each other, anywhere you stay will be fine. We just stayed at The House of Blues and it was about a 3-6 dollar cab ride one way from our hotel to the Field Museum and such.

MSI is almost six miles from Downtown. Most of the other major museums are clustered Downtown, though.

If you're going on a weekend, you might check 877Chicago for packages. We went on one of their Immersion Weekends a few years ago (pre-kids!) and had a great time.

If you're going to be doing a lot of the Major Attractions in a short time, you might see if CityPass is worth it for you.

The Swissotel is really nice too. It is close to Navy Pier and Millineum Park :teeth:

Hey, stay in the heart of Chicago on State Street that Great Street!

Check out this little boutique hotel called The Hotel Burnham. You will be a short ride or walk away from the lakefront, Millenium Park, Grant Park, Navy Pier, the Mag Mile, the Shedd, The Field and the Planetarium (which are grouped together right on the lakefront). You will be a mere two or three blocks from the Theater district on State St and Randolph.

And staying right there on State Street will give you a ton of great dining choices.

We were there in January for DD's 6th birthday (yea, what little girl wants to go to Chicago in January for her birthday????). Anyway, we used Hotwire and were able to get the Hyatt Regency downtown on Wacker for $52/night. Perfect if you don't have a car w/you as they do charge for parking. It's on the river and only about a three block walk to Navy Pier. It sits at Michigan and Wacker so you are right near the major shopping of Michigan Ave w/out the major traffic. Back behind it is a large newer park (the one w/the big kidney bean as my kids called it) and the theater district. You will need to cab to the museum area from anywhere downtown or you can take the buses or els. This Hyatt is perfect for adults as it's got a nightclub downstairs as well as a bar that overlooks the river. It is HUGE so expect a room on the ten millionth floor, LOL.

Anyone know how far North Michigan Ave - Water Tower- Gold Coast is away from things? Looking at Hotwire.

Water Tower is close to the Lincoln Park area and not too far from Navy Pier. It's right on the lake and close to lots of great restaurants and bars. Great shopping on Mich Avenue.
