Anyone know about shingles?

He's definately feeling better tonight so thats good. I missed the nurses call so I will call back tomorrow about a cream for him.

Is it true that once you get them you are more prone to get them again. Anyone know?

I wish I knew what caused this outbreak.

I'm so glad he's feeling better, did any Ice Cream play a part in that?

My doctor told me it's just a virus that you catch. Not to worry about it comming back, it was just a freak thing. He said it was going around town that month!

Shingles is a dormant chicken pox virus in your system..Usually a weakened immune system triggers the outbreak, hence it used to be only the elderly who had them..

I have not had a reoccurence and it is more then 20 years...

It's strange how the virus can lay dormant in your system. I read it resides in the spinal column and thats why it follows a nerve path. Interesting stuff actually.

No wonder he has a grown up disease...lol


I am going to look into the new Chicken pox vaccine. I suspect this is causing these outbreaks.

God I forgot about the nerve thing! My nerves tingled like crazy, that was the worst part! No pain, no itching, but nerves tingling! Honestly if he is complaining about this rub Apple Cider Vinegar on him. For the first 30 seconds the nerve activity increases, but then it stops for a good hour or so! Good Luck again!

My DD had an outbreak of shingles the first time at about age 10. She has had approx. 3 outbreaks since that time with the most recent just this past summer. She is 15 now. She always gets them at the base of her neck. She tends to have an outbreak when she is really stressed, run down and tired. Hard to believe you can be those things this young.

She did have the chicken pox shot. Her doctor told me that there is a possibility that having the shot is causing the virus to manifest itself in different ways.

I will say... it is extremely painful for her. Not necessarily the rash itself as much as the muscles and area all around her neck. Sometimes she has a really hard time just moving her neck/head when she gets it.
