Hi everyone,

we are going to Disneyland in December and have a room at the Red Roof Inn. Does anyone know anything about it, every stayed there...good or bad?

Thank you!!!

If it is the one I am thinking about it was originally a Motel 6. But it was a decent looking, 4 story motel 6. I never stayed there. It is located next to the freeway and about a 15-20 minute walk to the parks.

Stayed at RRI about 2 years ago when we went down spur of the moment and it was all that was available...

good news...it's cheap
bad news...it's cheap

We had no other choice but RRI or sleeping in the car so it was better than our second option.
However, our nonsmoking room, stunk of smoke when we walked in...which was not acceptable for our asthmatic. So we needed to switch rooms (this process of check in and switching rooms took about 2 hours).
Room was clean enough for a cheap hotel.
Walls were super-thin...could hear coughs through the walls.
Pool was small...didn't really swim while we were there, though.
Looks like it's the last stop on the Trolley route, so most of them were completely full (we parked our own car so wasn't a problem for us, but saw lots of crowds stuck at the Trolley wait).

Anyway, my final call would be...if you have no other choice, it would be acceptable...but if you have a chance for somewhere else for a little more, I would go for something better.

Thank you both of the replies. Now I'm scared of staying there. I know it is a value and it fits in our range but we are there 3 nights and we want to be comfortable so we may have to upgrade a bit.

Any suggestions on a good cheap hotel?

Happy Planning!!!

Just don't do it. The place is ickky.
Try for Hojo's or other places cleaner and closer to DLR.
Have a great trip whatever you decide:)

"Cheap Hotel" means different things to people. Iknow when I used to go to Disneyland (prior to 1996) I paid $35-$45 a night. After my first trip to Walt Disney World where we stayed on site, cheap hotel meant something different! :) I usually stay at the Howard Johnson, The Candy Cane Inn , Park Place Inn which run from $69-$99 a night. For less than that I have had recommendations for the Super 8 on Katella. I don;t know a lot about that one but in the last year have stayed at 7 different Super 8's in the last year and they were all fine.

Since I'm the one w/the lengthy review of RRI, I'll add another 2 cents worth....and some suggestions.

I felt that at RRI I did get what I was paying for...I did not expect fancy b/c my rate was very low. The room was clean and the beds were OK...which is my requirements for a cheap hotel. We basically open and close the park so only need a room for crashing into bed at night and then showering in the morning.

However, if you have small kids (which we did at that time) who need mid-day naps or like to swim, etc...it's not a place I would put at the top of my list for wanting to hang out at.

So I guess you would have to evaluate how much time you are spending in a hotel room and weigh that against what you want to pay.

After staying off-site at lots of places, my top recommendation, period is Candy Cane Inn. Regardless of price, this is a high-quality place...from the down comforters to the spa bath products to the breakfast choices, it really outshines everyone else in the vicinity. The price is right in line w/most of the other hotels in the area as well (don't ask for the AAA rate as it's actually HIGHER than the regular rate...we learned the first time).

I am going to rebook either at the Candy Cane or HoJo as that seems to be the suggestion of everyone. I have stayed at HoJo before and I know they are good and we like their pool:)

We need two rooms and we are trying to keep it under $1000 with tix and both hotels fit our budget.

I guess it might not pay to be "cheap" :D
