Anyone just spend a day at your resort?

We included a "day off" this year for the first time and really loved it. We planned it so we could stay late in the park for parade and fireworks the night before. It was great to relax, play in the pool, and explore the resort. The kids and preggy DW got a great nap and I got to wander. Worked out fantastic since Orlando got slammed that day with a pretty strong T-storm system (during nap time :thumbsup2 ). Nice day to not be in the park. We'll probably plan on a day off from now on.

Because we go for 3 weeks in August there are always several days off. The family enjoys just hanging out- relaxing- sleeping in-visiting other resorts and just about every other thing people have posted. I think I would want a day off regardless of how many days I was in disney. It is always a favorite and we discover new things about each other and the resorts.

Another vote for a resort day. We went for 4 days in May and spent one day at ASMu after going to breakfast at Ohana. We had a great time. It was so nice and relaxing. Slowing down and enjoying the trip makes it so much more memorable. It also makes it more like a vacation than a marathon!

We've been multiple times so do not need any more commando missions (love em' w new people tho!). This year we are doing 4 days on the Gulf (Sheraton Sand Key Resort Clearwater and Doubletree Resort in Redington), 6 days at the Dolphin. We will go to Sea World and Discovery Cove. That leaves 4 days for Disney. But those will be opening the parks and back to the resort by 1p to relax at the pool all afternoon, it's blazin' hot in August man. I make sure we leave on a late flight and do late checkout so we have the whole last day at our resort.
I'm getting so excited.
You having only 4 days though may not want to lose time in the parks. Just go early and leave early and you'll have plenty of time at the resort. The baby will hear all the fun around you, how exciting for you! Congrats!:hippie:

Has anyone ever spent a 'day-off" from the parks at POR ??
Just wondering how it was... as I think this resort is somewhat smaller
and wondering if it would be a bit boring to spend the whole day
there ?

TIA

We plan LOTS of downtime - it's essential with my little ones. We'll be there for 10 nights in Sept. and have only planned to be in the parks 4 days. Relax, enjoy your resort (and some quiet time before the baby arrives :thumbsup2 )!!!

Absolutely. On past visits our DD5 needed a day to rest, relax and decompress from the parks and we were happy to just stay at the hotel and do the same. Once at AKL, I went to the spa for a facial while DH and DD then 3 went to the pool. Then my DH and I got a couple bottles of wine and some snacks from Mara and spent a lovely afternoon on the balcony sipping and noshing and watching animals while she napped. We did Jiko that evening for dinner and just had a lovely day. Same deal during a trip to YC and Poly. And for a trip in December to CSR, we are planning a day at the hotel as well.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who appreciates a day at the resort for some R-N-R!!!

I think I'll try to sway DH, but he's got his heart set on boogie boarding at Cocoa Beach that day...oh well, maybe I'll pull my "I'm pregnant and don't want to" card on him!

We try to allow one day of just relaxing especially our 9 night stay. we usually take off on Thurs. and I usually do laundry while laying by the pool and it works out great. on our may trip, my dd caught a 24hr virus so we had to stay at the resort the whole day but we enjoyed it.

We always have down days in our schedule. We sleep late, swim, and I do laundry :). Does that count as a down day?? We also we go to DD and do some shopping.

The trips where we have included a Resort Day have been the best. We've enjoyed the whole vacation that much more. We actually just had the opposite prob. I could barely get my kids up & out of the rooms to go to Magic Kingdom for our 1 day in the Parks this July trip. Can you imagine!? Yacht Club gave us a most magical upgrade to a large suite. Some of the kids didn't even want to leave the rooms to swim in SAB again in the eve! A truly awesome amount of Pixie Dust that I feel so blessed to have experienced.pixiedust:

As far as being bored at Port Orleans, I think you'll be fine. You have 2 themed pools to choose from as you are allowed to swim at French Quarter too. Lovely walk among the resorts. You can do pole fishing if that's your thing. Surrey bikes, horseback rides (extra cost). Bob Jackson's show is fun on many eves at POR. Remember your goal is to not be a commando on your Rest Day! So rest! Even if that means watching Hannah Montana in your room for a bit (is there ANYTHING ELSE on TV in Disney or was that just my kids :sad2: ) And if you do feel bored take the nice boat to Dtn Disney or go visit any other Resort you're curious about via Disney Transportation (just don't take your refillable mug or your swimsuit!) :rotfl:
