Anyone Just Coming Home from WDW

and saw a few. not enough to bother us. we left on friday morning going to daytona beach and ran through a swarm of them close to daytona. we also saw a beautiful white bmw in the parking lot as we were leaving the vwl friday morning with it's front end covered with them. i've never seen that many bugs on the front of a car. they must have driven in at night or something. i don't know how they're going to get them off of there.

Now that they are out in full force how long is their lifespan?

we just got back a couple days ago and those little buggers were out in full force!!

How bad will they be in September ? my DH and I will be there from Sept 14th through the 21st

This is what i found on one site about the Love Bugs::hippie:

The spring flight occurs during late April and May. A second flight occurs during late August and September. Flights extend over periods of 4 to 5 weeks. Mating takes place almost immediately after emergence of the females. Adult females live only 2-3 days.

Hope this helps but we went Last May 22nd- June 1st and i didnt see any of thease bugs....Hopefully we dont see any this time we are Going May 21-28th.;)

We were in park from 5/04 to 5/12, and the love bugs were heavier later in the week. We saw quite a few car grilles covered with them, and towards the end of our stay they were becoming annoying.

Just returned today and have been there since the 9th. We always go in May and this time was the worst. They were EVERYWHERE!!! bus stop, pool, and right outside the door(we stayed at POP) Toward the end of our trip I was starting to get annoyed.

we just got back this morning. The bugs were definitely all over the place. For some reason they were the worst on the go cart ride.

We were there last week and they were AWFUL. Were in random spots outdoors, and seemed to be esp bad around the bus stops, seemed like they were very attracted to the buses and engines? I dunno. They didn't seem as bad in the parks, mostly around the resorts and like I said, the bus stops seemed the worst.

OK so end of April very first week in May seems clear? Seems like that second week they were there....ugh I am really stressing I want to go in May but am afraid my husband will flip if there are bugs again!?!?!?!? :lmao:

We were there a couple weeks ago, "May 3-10", at POP and the lovebugs were not a problem. We saw some, but the most we saw were dead ones on the pavements/walkways. I never had one land on me or bother me for that matter and I am a total bug freak. I hate insects.

Early May is my FAVORITE time to go to Disney. The weather, crowds, are perfect. I wouldn't let a few bugs stop you from going during this time !!!!

Best of luck.

Here is a magnified picture of two love bugs doing their thing:

Read about them here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_bugs

They spend their entire adult life mating, even in flight. The male usually dies first and the female carries him around until she lays her eggs and dies. They do not bother humans, but their bodies are very acidic and can etch car paint & chrome if not washed off daily.

We were there last week and they were the *worst* we'd ever seen them!! We didn't even eat outside at all because we were so annoyed by the lovebugs flying everywhere. At least they don't bite! ;)

We just returned, at Pop from May 15-20. The lovebugs were not bad at all. Had to shoo them away occasionally, but never a problem. Only time we saw more than a random pair, was on the buses windshields.:)

May is a great time to go, low crowds and beautiful weather, sunny in the mid eighties and low humidity. Don't let these little bugs change your plans.:wizard:

Just subscribing...We will be there at the end of next week and were there last September when they were TERRIBLE. Floridians, will they be dying out soon?
Also, off topic, how is the smell from the wild fires in the Orlando area? I had seen last week that Orlando actually had the worst air quality in the nation. We live in Southern Middle Tennessee and the smoke is drifting into the state, but the smell is not bad yet. I remember being in Orlando in the 90's when there were terrible fires and the smell was terrible.

Just retuned on the 18th. The bugs seemed to be everywhere... but I think I was actually getting used to the little buggers. A stranger even asked me if they could swat a bug off of me! They liked to hitch rides. My ds (6) who hates bugs had no problem brushing them off stuff. They don't bite, so I think that helped us not to freak out so much around them. They were more annoying than anything.

About the smoke smell... I only smelled it once on our last day. It was a little hazy out too and it may have been from the smoke. The cast members told me it depended on which way the wind was blowing. It was not bad at all. Hope this helps.
