From reading here it seems renovations haven't been started at POR. How's the carpet, paint etc in the Alligator bayou area? Thanks!:D

I will be in POR on June 24-29. I will report back upon my return. I hope it is in pretty good shape for my visit or someone will hear about it. My travel agent mentioned nothing about any constuction at POR but did mention the FQ was closed for construction.

Time to go in 10 hours to Universal/WDW...:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I was at AB section building 14 in May. It was spotlessly clean, but carpets were a bit worn. Curtains, chairs were clean and looked new. Bathroom could do with a makeover.:D

We just got back Sunday. Stayed in bldg. 14 of AB-great location.
The rooms were fine, just a little tired looking. To be perfectly honest I did not like this resort. The service in the food court was horrible!!! More trash on the ground than I've ever seen at WDW. No hair wrapping station. Just all around not as great as CSR where we stayed last year or WLV where we stayed in Jan. We definitely won't be back to POR.

Thanks everyone. I hope we hear some more reports from those staying there later this summer. I have recommended it to friends and now I'm concerned.:(

That's a shame! Hopefully if was just an "off" time.
Was everything open at the food court? What about all the bus stops, were they functioning? Also, how far is the bus stop from AB bldg 14?
Thanks!!

CRO replies this morning that renovations to POR has been halted, with no plans to begin any work before our trip in November. Supposedly, everything is business as usual; all buildings open, full-service food court, normal bus operations, happy smiling people, etc.

Actual observations from DIS forum members would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Ambassador -

Did CRO happen to mention when they are planning to start the renovations again? I'd like to stay there for our late Nov.- early Dec. trip - but only if it's fully functioning. thanks.

They did not know of the schedule for renovations. It is typical of the cast members at CRO to be helpful, but not proactively informative. One must ask clear and direct questions, and keep asking in different ways. They can be elusive at times, but probably because they really do not know. I had started by calling the POR Front Desk, and was forwarded to CRO; that may say something about the situation, by how they have chosen to handle inquiries.

I spoke with 'Ace' who is a member of the POFQ relocation team. I asked directly about any potential impact on our travel from Nov 2-9, and he said he was not aware of work starting before that time, and assured that we would not be affected by any temporary inconvience. But he was not aware of the Pool renovations which had occured in 2002, disappointing many DIS members.

Hopefully some DIS members will report on the actual conditions soon.

hi

i just called the POR directly and spoke with a cm

i asked if some of the bus stops were closed- she kept avoiding my question by telling me that where i'm staying at the resort this won't affect me...so i ended up asking her 3 times about the bus stops and she finally admitted that some of the stops were closed but in no means would this infringe on my transportation!!

then i asked about the food court and if the BQ chicken & rib section is closed- she said no

i asked if the hotel is under renovation- and again she was evasive- she said if the work has started or if it is going to start that in no way will it interfere with my stay- geez what kind of answer was that:(

i asked her if there is a possibility that i could be moved- cm asked if i have received a letter stating this- i told her no, and she said if that were to happen WDW would contact me for other arrangements- OMG the longer i talked to her the more worried i am!!

she closed the conversation by stating WDW wants all of their guest to be happy and would never inconvience them so i
shouldn't worry about any renovations and that i will have a magical time

well, what do ya think?

i almost want to change my ress- but we have 5 people and it is mighty hard to do

I'm with you Bratray, I am very concerned about all that! I was at CBR but switched to POR because we now have 5 in our party. I called too and was told by "Guy" at guest services everythign was up and running. I don't think anybody knows!!!
So, what if I get there and they are not all up and running even tho I was assured of this could I be moved I wonder?
I really don't want to stay somewhere that is not fully functional.

ya know... u never really are gonna know until it happens...
Isnt that how life is...If the CM states " In no way will your
reservation/stay be affected" .....Take that for what its worth...

and worry when and if it does happen. With all this Full capacity
going around dont think they would close 2 resorts down together.....think logically....

Didnt they have parts of POR shut down but recently..in the last few days.....change their minds about what they were doing and reopen the entire resort.......Doesnt that say something.....that work has been halted...?

A little more info from my stay last week:

*Only the main & west bus stops were open. Bus service was fine, I have no complaints on that.
*The middle section of the food court was definitely still closed.
The sections that were open were pasta/pizza; hamburgers/hotdogs/etc; bakery/ice cream; cold sandwiches.
We ate at Boatwrights for breakfast one morning and it was good.
*No signs of construction, but the back buildings of both AB and the Mansions are closed. Absolutely no signs of life
*There are no hair dryers, irons or ironing boards in the rooms but they were quickly delivered when requested.

I didn't mean to trash POR in my previous post. It's a nice resort, but we just really preferred Coronado Springs. IMHO, CS offers much more, especially since the resorts are usually priced the same.

I hope everyone enjoys their trips. We've planning on an Epcot resort for DEC. 04!

I really think Disney should be honest with those that have upcoming reservations. If renovations are going on guests should know before they arrive. The money to stay at a moderate is quite a bit, and if you're on vacation you should get what you pay for. I can't understand why the run around from them. Very frustrating for everyone.:(

But maybe at this time when u are all calling and asking all these questions .....the CM is being honest...about what the situation is at that time. And if down the road that changes we will all be mad
cause we werent told prior or we will be screaming at them cause we felt we were mis informed.

Working in customer service for so long i was never told to lie to a customer over the phone...about some situation...

HI all, just got back on Sunday from 5 day stay in POR.

Just as Cajungirl had mentioned, this is ALL TRUE!!!

They did open the east bus stop on June 28th. They said the ribs and chicken section would open this week. I thought the food in the place was not that great. We ate there once and that was all it took to change my mind. Prices are high as expected. The pizza we had delivered to the room was very good. Highly reccomend for late night munchies. We stayed in the Oakmanor, room 9277. Room was clean and had no problems. The quiet pool by our place was very noisy packed with kids until midnight everynight. Complained once but it didnt help. I hope this helps.

Would I stay there again? ---- I still like staying at an off-site rental house for the week. Alot cheaper and more privacy for the pool area.
