Am thinking of spending MLK weekend 2004 at Universal - anyone have any crowd reports from this year or previous years? Have no idea what I should expect.

Yeah it was empty, why would you think that MLK Day would create a crowd at the parks?

It's always empty this time of month.

I wouldn't call MLK Day a holiday as I would call 4th of July a Holiday.

Either way it wasn't busy last weekend.

Anytime the kids are off from school, attendance tends to pick up in the theme parks....and MLK day IS a national holiday, so many kids are off. It might not be as noticable, and maybe USF/IOA doesn't get hit as hard for long weekend type holidays at WDW, but it's not a silly question! :)

Usually, anytime there is an extra day off from work/school, people will take advantage and travel around those dates, thus saving a day of their vacation time, or keeping the kids out of school one less day than necessary.

Now President's day brings on a whole other set of problems since it's also a major school vacation period for some major areas of the US that bring lots of tourists to central Florida!

Who asked 'bout July 4th??
MLK day was honored here. (No banks, no mail, no Gov't offices open. I've heard others around the country are observing this also.)
Maybe it was a little slow at the parks because it was colder than a witches', er,.... coldest week-end of season so far.

Thanks for the responses - it's been about 20 years since I've been down in Jan. and I didn't know what to expect. My kids want to end trip to WDW with long weekend at HRH - I was afraid it might be a mobbed weekend even though in Jan - Fla seems more crowded every year I go down !- and a packed day at Universal feels more confining to me because there are still fewer options to avoid the crowds, IMHO, than at WDW - I don't mind 'busy' crowds, just didn't want July 4th type mobs - we'll have a new baby in tow and may have to take turns going into the parks for a few hours at a time - sounds like a go!

h20jag- being from the N'east everyone here has 3 days off, too - many of my friends take a quick trip south (hoping for a little warmth!) - or North/West to ski.

No one, I said MLK Day is not a holiday ((In my mind)) like 4th of July is a Holiday. MLK Day doesn't draw a crowd to Universal like 4th of July, that's what I was saying.

Anyway you look at it, I was there over the weekend and the parks highest wait time was 15-minutes.

The park was empty MLK Day had no effect on the crowds so leave it at that.

That's funny, I could have sworn I was in a crowd when I was there...

MLK weekend can be busy, just be aware of that, but it's NOT dead by any means.

USO, you renewed?

If you're staying at the HRH you shouldn't have any problems with lines since you'll have your magic room keys. I'm glad to know that it wasn't too busy this year.

Are any major rides in rehab that time of the year?

It was much too cold to go over there last weekend. We are going this Sunday because the high will reach 63 which suddenly seems toasty warm compared to some of the weather we've been having.
