My dh was offered a job in Idaho (Boise) and we are very seriously considering it. He hates his job and boss now and that is a huge understatment. It's better hours, more pay, no traveling, more family oriented (but that's not hard). But it's a big move, 1200 miles and this is home. Our families are ALL here. We've lived away before. Anyway, what should I know about Idaho? And is it Idahoans? Idahoians? Thanks!

I am from Idaho, but not from Boise. Boise is about 4 hours from my home, but I have been there several times in my life. I have lived in Idaho or northern Utah for all of my life and I love it here. The weather in Boise is much more moderate than in my area, which is near the Rockies. It is warmer and there isn't as much wind or snow. The city is quite good sized and has all of the restuarants, malls and things to do that you could want. They have a HUGE outlet mall that is fun to shop in too. People are friendly, I think. Potatoes are cheap. :) The only drawback to Boise is that it is kind of "out in the middle of nowhere." If you get outside of the city very far, it is farms and little towns and not much else. I don't nkow how far it is to Oregon, but I can tell you it is about 6-7 hours or so to SLC which has a major airport. I don't know where you are from, but one of the things I love about Idaho is the traffic. We don't have "rush hour" traffic at all where I live, and I am pretty sure Boise wouldn't be bad. If you want to know more details, my husband has a good friend who lives in Boise, and I can ask him. I think you would really like it here. And it is "Idahoans." And, you are only about 5 hours to Yellowstone National Park. If you like to camp and fish and such, you would definately love it in Idaho.

Well, that is cool, first day here, Idaho, and you are already working. :p Giving out help!!!! Cool!! :cool1:

Hi! Im in Boise!
What can I do for you?

We have a great Dis group here. Not many of us here but the quality is great ;) LOL

Boise is probably the most Family Oriented place Ive ever lived! There is so much to do here for families. We have a nice ( small) zoo, an AMAZING park system, and a couple of nice museums.

I would be glad to answer any questions you might have.

Hey, while we're on Idaho - how are the mountains in North Idaho? DH and I will be driving up in June to Spokane, and we're trying to decide if we want to go straight up the Plains states and across Montana/Idaho or across to Vegas and up the California coast. Either way, we hit the mountains coming across Idaho/Montana or going east across Washington... But since we're towing, we want the easier mountains!

Sorry to hijack the thread! If anyone has advice about northern Idaho, I'll take it. ;) Especially the best skiing mountains...

When my DH got a job offer in Boise I was less than thrilled. I said I would go only if he promised we wouldn't have to stay there forever.

I got there and LOVED it! We lived in a great neighborhood, loved the school and our church group. I was sooo sad when we had to leave!

Only thing I would have changed is not buying the house on the huge corner lot. We moved there in the summer - didn't even think about shoveling all that snow all winter long!

I have driven to Moscow and to Washington State from my home and I didn't find the mountains too hard, but I wasn't towing. I will say that the only time I have even been carsick was driving through Lolo Pass. The road was fine, but very very winding. I will say the scenery is beautiful up there and if you like to golf, the only "floating" green is at a golf course in Coure de'laine, I believe.

Thanks for all your help. I really don't know what to ask. I've been to lots of websites. I saw that the schools were really good, which is great, we are leaving a really good school and hate to give that up (and I won't). We live in Omaha, NE, so it's the same here, you drive out of the city and it's all farms and farmland. I'm worried about selling my house of course. We will decide pretty quickly. If there's a Dis'er group there, we can definitely join that! We joined DVC last summer and plan to go to WDW every year! :teeth: If you see a minivan with Nebraska plates with the Disney world "been there and going back" license bracket this summer, that's me!

My mom is in Coeur D Alene so we drive that road all the time. If youre coming up from the Southern part of the State take the Oregon route, its the same amount of time ( you cut up after Hermiston and go through the Tri Cities In Washington to Ritzville then turn East towards Spokane on I-90) this is a MUCH MUCH MUCH easier route when towing. We moved here from CDA and came down that way with a UHAUL and a trailer behind. I would never take the road through Mc Call with a trailer, some people do but  you couldnt pay me enough to do it! The only problem with that route is right outside of Pendleton there is a really steep grade!! and you go DOWN. They have improved it greatly over the last few years though. it doesnt feel like youre dropping off the edge of the Earth anymore LOL believe me it used to feel that way!

Zach, like I said, feel free to email me or PM me if you want to know about specific areas of town. I would be glad to help out! We would love to have you join our group! :)

as for the skiing in N Idaho you cant miss Schweitzer in Sandpoint! Great skiing there (or so I hear I dont ski lol)
and Silver Mountain is great too, the is Mt Spokane whish is passabel but yikes what a road to drive

Well gee ! Couldn't you guess i was from Idaho !

We have lived in Boise since 1991. We live in the southeastern part of the town.....the Boise river is literally our backyard, and we are in a fabulous school district. If your DH will be working at Micron or Albertson's this is the place to be. On the other side of town in Hewlette Packard, and also some other nice resedential areas.
