My sons Pre-k teacher is moving to Albany with her DH and 2 cats. She has been unable to find housing and her Dh is still job hunting. He is a carpenter. Does anyone know anyone that can help her? She will be working with kids there and they will be some lucky kids. If anyone can give us areas to avoid or look into? All help is greatly appreciated. Thank you
Christy

I lived in Albany for several years as a college student and for my first job. The biggest employers in the area are the state government and SUNY, my alma mater. That's as good a place as any to start job hunting. There are several colleges in the area besides SUNY that might also have a need for carpenters. Also, Saratoga Springs is only 30 minutes away and has a lot of wealthy folks who might be looking to hire.

There are a couple of bad areas close to downtown Albany along with the infamous "student ghetto" which stretches from the SUNY campus down to Lark Street. That's not a bad area per se, but the mostly student population means things can get loud, especially on weekends. There's also Troy, which people used to call "Troylet" as as well as Schenectady. You don't want to know what people call that town! Outside of that, most of the area is pretty typical suburbia.
