Anyone here raised from deaf parents???

I was not, but one of my friends was. Both her parents were deaf. Even 15 years ago, I thought technology was quite amazing as they had the TTD (I think is what it is called for the phone), their lights flickered when the doorbell rang and of course, there was captioning on the tv. They taught at the local deaf school.

One of my friends was raised by deaf parents as well. Although my friend could hear, Sign language was her first language. When she talked to me, sometimes I could see her hands working away as well! It was amazing when we went to her wedding... we went into the hall and there was a crowd of people all talking to each other... silently with their hands.

I have a cousin who is deaf who married someone that is deaf. They have two hearing children. The children had some trouble in school and were troubled teens growing up. They took advantage of the fact that their parents couldn't "hear" them.

Did you have a question that you specifically wanted answered besides who has been raised by deaf parents?

One deaf parent, one hearing, but that was after Dad retired from the military. Completely oral as is my uncle who is also adult deafened. And I am now losing my hearing as well. I was 13 when we found out Dad was going deaf.

My boys have a couple of hearing friends whose parent's are both deaf. Also know a hearing adult who was raised by deaf parents. Why are you asking?

Two of my three deaf sisters think they are my moms! Does that count?

My sister has three kids and they can all hear. She and her DH are deaf.

My fondest memory was my sister being in charge, and I got into a fight with her and she insisted I call my mom at work to tattle on myself. Yeah, I got right on top of that one.
