My mother has been taking Imuran for the last 4 months, her dosage was 50 mg per day, but since her tests results are not showing any improvement the doctor decided to double the dosage (100 mg per day). Is that very common? Should we be prepared for any side effects? The doctor told us not to worry, and I trust him completely, but I’m a worrier by nature and would like some info from a patients perspective.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

May I ask what she is on it for? Lupus? I am not on it, but there are some very good lupus boards if that is the case.

It would help to know what her diagnosis is. I know that Imuran is prescribed for patients with inflammatory bowel disease and it takes about 3-6 months to get the dosage right.

Her liver is failing, her transaminases and billirubin are very high, her red blood cells are very low.

I wish I could help. Chris is on that and prednisone for his neuropathy. I know what the prednisone has done to him, but I don't know about the Imuran. I wish he'd get better, so he could get off them both. It's been a year and he's puffed up like a balloon.

I am on 150mg/day of Imuran along with 5mg of prednisone. My sister is also on it, I don't know her dosage. She has Lupus. I have Autoimmune Hepatitis.

It took awhile, but my LFT's are finally in the normal range.
